For Immediate Release:
September 4, 1996.
Canton MI, Stardock Systems, a leading developer of software for IBM's OS/2
announced that AVARICE: The Final Saga should begin arriving in the hands
of customers today.
Avarice, designed from scratch to leverage the power of OS/2 is of the same
genre as games such as Myst, 7th Guest, etc. Unlike those games, Avarice
supports true 24bit color, multiple resolutions (up to 1600x1200x24bit), and
a powerful object model that allows players to truly interact with the world.
It has been in development for almost 2 years.
"CSS <Continuous Software Systems> really got the performance up from the
betas," said Brad Wardell, President, Stardock Systems, Inc. "I think users
will be blown away at how fast this graphics intensive game is."
Avarice is by far the largest OS/2 gaming project ever undertaken for OS/2
The CD ROM game uses up nearly 600 megabytes of space on the CD while
only using a mere 9 megabytes of space on the hard drive.
Avarice also has other characters in the game in which you can interact with.
The game targets the a broad audience with an unofficial "PG" rating.
The background plot to the game is that you received a mysterious letter from
your long lost uncle. He claims that the opportunity of a lifetime awaits you
at his island estate. When you arrive, he is gone and you and the other
guests must discover what happened to him and what this "opportunity of
a lifetime" is all about.
Where Avarice truly breaks ground and demonstrates its unique OS/2 abilities
is in its level of interactivity. No game on any platform has yet approached
the way Avarice makes you feel like you're in the world. Players can
pick up objects, manipulate virtually any object, etc. There is even a
library full of real books that can be read from cover to cover.
"We're certain that this game will overwhelm some people at first. They'll
be placed into this world where they can interact with pretty much everything,"
said Wardell. "Unlike most games, there are no flashing signs telling you
what to do next, it's up to you to figure out what to do just as if you were
in a real house with a real mystery to solve."
Stardock will be placing hints and interacting with players via its website
(http://www.stardock.com).
Avarice: The Final Saga lists for $69.95 and is available at most OS/2
resellers. You can also purchase it directly from Stardock by calling
1-800-672-2338 (you can also order it directly from the website).
Stardock Systems can be reached at 313-453-0328.
