  8. UNDELPM is a Presentation Manager application, that can be used instead of 
  9. *OS/2's UNDELETE, to undelete (restore) files from the DELDIR directory.  This 
  10. demo version is fully functional with one execption, you will only be allowed 
  11. to work with the first 14 files in the DELDIR directory.  This limitation only 
  12. pertains to this evaluation version.  If you restore any of the first 14 files 
  13. and use the option to remove files from the DELDIR directory (default action) 
  14. or chose to permanently discard files (Options menu), the next time you execute 
  15. UNDELPM you will be presented with a different list of files provided there 
  16. were more than 14 files in the DELDIR directory to begin with.  DELDIR 
  17. directory refers to the directory pointed to by the DELDIR environment 
  18. variable.  Please refer to Undelete in the OS/2 Command Reference if you are 
  19. unfamiliar with DELDIR.

  21. WARNING !  You should NOT run  UNDELPM if other processes are running that may 
  22. delete files.  If you do, CONTROL.DEL could possibly end up being corrupted. 
  23. This means that CONTROL.DEL may contain names of files that no longer exist in 
  24. the DELDIR directory.  See also Error updating CONTROL.DEL under ERROR Dialogs

  27. You must select Target -> Target directory before the Restore function will 
  28. execute.  You will be notified that UNDELPM can not find the DELDIR directory 
  29. if you do not have the DELDIR environment variable set.  If you are given the 
  30. message that CONTROL.DEL can not be found, it means there are no files to 
  31. undelete.

  33. IMPORTANT NOTE:  UNDELPM looks for the DELDIR directory on the drive you were 
  34. logged onto when it was started if you start it from the command line or the 
  35. drive pointed to by the working directory in the program's setup folder if you 
  36. start it from it's icon.

  38. You will be presented with a listbox of ALL files that can be undeleted. Each 
  39. line will have the timestamp and date of the file, followed by the name of the 
  40. file.

  64. These are dialogs and messages you could encounter while UNDELPM is executing.

  69. The file you are undeleting already exists in the target directory and is in 
  70. use by another process.  Try again later.  The only action you can take is to 
  71. Press OK.

  76. The file you are undeleting already exists in the target directory. You have 
  77. three possible responses for this dialog.  You will be asked if you want to 
  78. overwrite the file.  Press YES if you do, NO if you don't or Stop Restore 
  79. function (there will be no further processing of any marked files).

  84. This means the source file no longer exists in the DELDIR directory or the 
  85. original directory does NOT exist now.  The only response possible is to Press 
  86. OK.

  89. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.4. Error updating CONTROL.DEL ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  91. CONTROL.DEL can NOT be updated, more than likely because it was in use by 
  92. another process.  In this case, you can manually copy the file CONTROL.TMP to 
  93. CONTROL.DEL later.  This should only happen if you are running another process 
  94. that is using CONTROL.DEL.  If it did not get updated properly, it may contain 
  95. names of files that no longer exist in the DELDIR directory. If you copy 
  96. CONTROL.TMP to CONTROL.DEL, you may end up with files in the DELDIR directory 
  97. that are not listed in CONTROL.DEL.  This is why it is important that you do 
  98. not run UNDELPM if other processes are running that could delete files.

  103. UNDELPM.INI could not be updated.  The file UNDELPM.TMP will contain the 
  104. information that UNDELPM.INI should contain.  Copy UNDELPM.TMP to UNDELPM.INI 
  105. so it will have the correct information.

  110. Select Action -> Exit to terminate program execution. Pressing Alt F4 has the 
  111. same effect.

  187. This menu provides you with four items, Restore Options..., Discard all 
  188. files..., Discard selected, and Color...

  193. The default action of UNDELPM is to remove files from the DELDIR directory 
  194. after a successful restore of marked files.  If you would like a copy of the 
  195. file to remain in the DELDIR directory after a completed Restore, select 
  196. Options -> Restore Options... -> Leave files in DELDIR.

  199. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6.2. Discard all files Dialog ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  201. To permanently discard all files in the DELDIR directory, select  Options -> 
  202. Discard all files....  You will be presented with a dialog asking you if you 
  203. want to delete the files.  Press YES to continue.  If you do not want to 
  204. continue press NO or CANCEL.

  206. NOTE: This demo version will only discard the files you see in the list box, 
  207. NOT all of the files in the DELDIR directory.

  212. To permanently discard only selected files in the DELDIR directory, select 
  213. Options -> Discard selected.  All marked files will be discarded.

  218. This menu choice lets you set the foreground and background colors for UNDELPM. 
  219. Check the foreground or background (default) box and push the button beside the 
  220. color you want to use.  Then push Set color to put the change into effect. 
  221. Press OK or CANCEL when you are through setting the colors.

  223. Press the SAVE button to save the colors to UNDELPM.INI.  This causes the color 
  224. scheme to be saved when UNDELPM terminates.  UNDELPM will use the color scheme 
  225. you saved the next time it is executed.

  230. This menu item will start the Restore function if you have selected a Target 
  231. directory and have marked files to undelete.  This function places marked files 
  232. into the target directory.  Once this function is started,  you can stop it by 
  233. selecting Stop from the  Action  menu.  If a file is still marked after this 
  234. function (Restore) has completed, it means that no action was taken on the 
  235. marked file.

  240. Selecting the Stop menu item from the  Action  menu will stop the Restore 
  241. function in progress.

  246. This dialog prompts you for a target directory for files being undeleted.  You 
  247. will be presented with the current directory in an edit field.  You can edit 
  248. this field or press OK or CANCEL.  Pressing OK results in the directory 
  249. displayed in the edit field to be used for the  target unless you select "Use 
  250. original directory". Pressing CANCEL will cause the directory that was 
  251. displayed in the edit field when the dialog appeared to be used for the target 
  252. unless you have previously chosen "Use original directory" during the current 
  253. session.

  255. You can click on "Use original directory" if you want files to be placed back 
  256. into the original directory they were deleted from.  The directory name in the 
  257. edit field will be ignored in this case.

  259. The default action of UNDELPM is to warn you if it is about to overwrite an 
  260. existing file.  If you do NOT want this warning, click on "Query overwrite when 
  261. file exists" checkbox to remove the checkmark.

  266. This menu will enable you to Refresh the window, Select all files for undelete 
  267. (or discard), or Deselect all files that may be marked.  Files can also be 
  268. marked for restore by clicking on the name in the list box.
