  2. Araxis PMdiff version 4.0 release notes (1st February 1996)

  4. For IBM OS/2** Warp 3.0, Microsoft Windows NT** 3.5, and 
  5. Windows 95**. PMdiff 4.0 will _NOT_ run on OS/2 2.x or Windows 
  6. NT 3.1.

  8. The Windows NT**/Windows 95** version of PMdiff has not yet been
  9. released. Release is expected in the second quarter of 1996.

  16. INTRODUCTION
  17.  
  18. Araxis PMdiff is a graphical file comparison application. It
  19. works the way you work. Visually. Files are displayed side by
  20. side. Differences are highlighted and lines are drawn showing
  21. how the files are related.
  22.  
  23. PMdiff allows you to select text from two versions of a file
  24. and produce a new version containing just the changes you want.
  25.  
  26. The Windows NT version of PMdiff 3.1 enables you to compare
  27. directory structures and the files within them, quickly and
  28. easily.
  29.  
  30. PMdiff for OS/2 is fully integrated with OS/2's Workplace
  31. Shell. To compare files, simply drag and drop them onto the
  32. PMdiff object, or onto the running application.
  33.  
  34. PMdiff is highly configurable. Fonts and colours and other
  35. settings can be altered to show changes in a way that suits
  36. you. Check the friendly on-line help for details.

  38. PMdiff makes full use of OS/2 and NT's advanced features.
  39. Such as notebooks and pop-up menus (via mouse button two).

  41. PMdiff is an excellent addition to any OS/2 or NT software
  42. development product. See 'Licensing PMdiff' in the on-line
  43. help for details of how to bundle PMdiff with your
  44. leading-edge system.

  46. Araxis PMdiff is available for IBM OS/2 Warp version 3.0,
  47. Microsoft Windows NT 3.51, and Windows 95.

  50. INSTALLATION
  51.  
  52. Run the friendly installation program (instos2.exe for OS/2 or 
  53. setup.exe for NT and Windows 95) supplied with the package. You 
  54. can install from floppy or hard disk.  You may also use the Add 
  55. Programs icon in the Windows 95 Control Panel to install PMdiff
  56. (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs).

  58. Should you wish to uninstall the OS/2 version of PMdiff, simply
  59. run the uninstallation program, uninst.cmd. You may manually
  60. uninstall the NT version by deleting the contents of the PMdiff
  61. installation directory and then the PMdiff 3.1 group in Program 
  62. Manager.

  65. GENERAL NOTES
  66.  
  67. Araxis PMdiff for OS/2 makes extensive use of drag and drop. Use
  68. it to load files or change colours and fonts. Experiment with
  69. the second mouse button. It activates a pop-up menu containing
  70. many useful short-cuts.
  71.  
  72. The on-line help is comprehensive, although not all items are
  73. available from General Help. Check out the Help Index to make
  74. sure that you don't miss anything.

  84. EVALUATION VERSION
  85.  
  86. PMdiff is the result of many months of dedicated development
  87. effort. It exists in evaluation and licensed versions.
  88.  
  89. The two version are identical, except that the evaluation
  90. version does not allow preferences to be saved, won't save
  91. merged files and pops up messages from time to time reminding
  92. you of the benefits of registering. You may distribute the
  93. evaluation version freely, and use it for up to 21 days.
  94. If you find it useful then you are asked to register
  95. it. This won't cost you much, and will gain you
  96.  
  97. * a disk containing the latest licensed versions (for
  98.     both OS/2 and NT) allowing preferences and merged
  99.     files to be saved

  103. * the satisfaction of supporting good OS/2 and NT software

  112. LICENSED VERSION
  113.  
  114. The licensed version of PMdiff allows you to save your
  115. preferences between sessions and save merged files.
  116. This is to reward you for registering PMdiff.
  117.  
  118. You may install the licensed version on several machines.
  119. However, you must ensure that only the number of copies
  120. purchased are in use at any given time. You may use _either_
  121. the OS/2 _or_ the NT version at a time, not both simultaneously
  122. (unless, of course, you have purchased two or more licences).
  123.  
  124. For example, perhaps you have bought only one copy. You can
  125. install it on your desktop office machine, and your laptop. Even
  126. your home machine. But PMdiff must be run on only one of the
  127. machines at any given time.

  130. WARRANTY
  131.

  136. HISTORY
  137.  
  138. PMdiff 4.0  Fixed hang when PMdiff minimized. Fixed intermittent
  139.             operation of mouse actions on the left file.
  140.             PMdiff no longer stores the window position if 
  141.             closed when minimized. Reduced frequency of messages
  142.             requesting registration. Fixed tab expansion 
  143.             problem. Increased message queue length so that
  144.             processing of command line arguments works even
  145.             if certain software (such as Stardock's Object
  146.             Desktop) is installed which posts extra messages to
  147.             applications as they start. Removed PMdiff tribble
  148.             from product information dialog (R.I.P.), and
  149.             replaced with the shiny new Araxis PMdiff logo.
  150.             Added quick start help screen for new users.
  151.             CR and LF characters at the ends of lines are now
  152.             considered to be whitespace when doing whitespace
  153.             insensitive comparisons (hence you can't view trailing
  154.             CR/LF characters when ignoring whitespace).
  155.             If you find any faults in this version, let us know
  156.             because we've fixed everything reported so far.

  158. PMdiff 3.1  Fixed several faults introduced in 3.0, and some
  159.             existing faults that surfaced during extensive
  160.             stress testing.
  161.  
  162. PMdiff 3.0  All known outstanding faults fixed. Go to
  163.             next/previous difference buttons, keyboard support
  164.             and file merge capability added. Also, optional
  165.             display of CR/LF characters and line numbers.
  166.             Icon updated. Tribble has experimented with
  167.             eye-shadow.
  168.  
  169.             First port to Windows NT 3.5 and Windows 95. The 
  170.             OS/2 version is for OS/2 Warp 3.0 and higher only. 
  171.             It will not run on OS/2 2.x.
