ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. About... ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Version 1.0 by Stellar-X Pty Ltd, August 29th, 1997
Introduction
PMAttrib is a simple utility to view and modify the standard attributes for a
file, directory, or directory tree.
The following attributes are recognised.
Archived
Denotes a file as archivable. It is mainly provided used for
archiving software.
Read-only
Allows the file to be read from, but not written to, or deleted.
Hidden
The file will not be visible to the user, unless they choose to view
hidden files.
System
The file is to be used by the operating system(s). Users do not have
full access permissions to system files; for example, they cannot be
deleted.
Extended attributes, such as long file names, file versions, and other
information, are not affected by PMAttrib.
Usage
The PMAttrib interface
PMAttrib is shown above.
There are four ways to execute it -
Double-clicking on the PMAttrib object. This is the easiest way.
Dropping a file object on the PMAttrib object. PMAttrib will
automatically display the attributes for the file.
Dropping a folder (directory) object on the PMAttrib object. PMAttrib
will automatically display the attributes for the directory. The selected
directory is displayed with Find occurrences in subdirectories selected.
This option allows you to set the attributes for all files in a directory
tree at once. You may use wildcard expressions (eg *.txt) in the Select
files field to set attributes for any matching files.
You may execute it from the command line with a filename argument, for
example
PMATTR C:\DESKTOP\MYFILE.TXT
will show you the attributes for C:\DESKTOP\MYFILE.TXT.
Note: PMAttrib requires that the standard attribute modifier, ATTRIB.EXE be
found in your system path. Usually, it is in x:\OS2 where x: is your boot
drive. PMAttrib will inform you if ATTRIB.EXE was not found.
To learn more about how your standard ATTRIB works, refer to the Command
Reference in your Information folder.
PMAttrib's user interface provides -
┬╖┬╖┬╖
Opens a dialogue, where you may choose a file to view its
attributes. The current filename/filter is shown in the entry field
on the left.
Find occurrences in subdirectories
When attributes are changed by pressing the Change button, all
matching filenames in subdirectories will be changed. This is
equivalent to the /S option of ATTRIB.
Archive, Read-only, Hidden, and System flags
Use the appropriate Switch on and Switch off to set or reset the
current file's attributes. Select only the attributes you wish to
change.
Change
Sets the attributes of the specified files/directories to the chosen
set.
Close
Closes PMAttrib.
