OS2TREE INSTALL DIRECTIONS
Before installing OS2TREE, The following line must be in your
CONFIG.SYS:
IOPL=YES
If your CONFIG.SYS does not contain this line, insert it, reboot
your system and continue with the installation.
You can stop the installation process at any time by pressing
ESC in response to any prompt.
1. Put the OS2TREE installation diskette in your A: drive.
Start an OS2 full screen or window session, and change directory
to the A: root.
2. Type
OS2TREE
and press ENTER. Os2Tree will install itself onto your hard disk
and create a default profile. As it performs the installation, it
will ask you questions in order to customize itself. A default
response is provided for each question; to accept the default,
simply press ENTER, otherwise type over the reponse and press
ENTER. No ENTER is required for Y/N questions.
3. Is this a MONO DISPLAY ?
Press "Y" if your computer has a monochrome monitor.
Press "N" if your computer has a color monitor.
4. Please enter default OST2TREE PATH:
Enter the path for the directory in which the Os2Tree files
are to be kept. Os2Tree will create this directory if it
doesn't already exist.
If Os2Tree is unable to create the directory, an error message
will be displayed and you will be given a chance to re-enter
the directory name.
Press any key and Os2Tree will begin copying its files to your
hard disk.
5. Please enter DEFAULT Main Editor Name:
Enter the name of the text editor you usually use to edit your
files. The default is the OS2 system editor "E.EXE".
6. Please enter DEFAULT Quick/Fast Editor Name:
You may enter the name of a second editor. This is usually used
to specify a smaller, faster-loading editor, to be used for a
quick look/change to a file. If you don't have such an editor,
just press enter to continue.
7. Please enter DEFAULT Viewer/Browser Program Name:
Enter the name of the program you use to browse text.
At this point, Os2Tree will create a definitions file
(Os2Tree.Def) based on your responses. This will then be
compiled into the Os2Tree profile (Os2Tree.Pro). After
the profiler completes, press any key to continue.
8. A list of the most commonly used commands is displayed.
This list will be displayed every time Os2Tree is executed,
unless you specify otherwise. It is a good idea to print
this screen, via the "PRINT SCREEN" key, to aid in
familiarizing yourself with the keys.
Press any key and the license information screen will be displayed.
Press any key to continue.
9. Do you wish to disable FIRST TIME USER MESSAGES in the future?
If you press "N", Os2Tree will display the list of commands
and prompt for the demo each time it is run.
If you press "Y", these displays will be disabled. Your Os2Tree
profile will be recompiled to activate the change. Once the
compile is finished press any key to continue.
10. Is a demo of the basic Os2Tree FUNCTIONS Desired ?
Press "N" to skip the demo and begin using Os2Tree immediately.
Press "Y" to see a demonstration of Os2Tree capabilities.
From the demo, press the ESC key at any time to quit the demo.
Any other key will step you through the demo.
11. Os2Tree will now generate the tree structures for all of
your disks. Once the trees are created and displayed, you're ready
to begin!
Remember to add the directory that Os2Tree was installed in to
the PATH and DPATH in your CONFIG.SYS.
13. Below please find a listing of the BASIC HELP FILE:
OS2TREE.HLP
The help file is provided in FOUR forms:
OS2TREE.HLP [25 line mode]
OS2TREE4.HLP [43 line mode]
OS2TREE5.HLP [50 line mode]
OS2TREE6.HLP [60 line mode]
Each form is formatted for a different screen mode.
These files can and should be modified when you change
the key meanings in the OS2TREE.DEF.
Please remember to change them in all FOUR FORMS OF
the HELP FILES inorder to stay current in all screen
modes.
