Lesson 7: Control-Key Commands
In addition to CUA commands (common user architecture, a worldwide standard ì
for how to handle computers) like Ctrl-Ins for "copy block into clipboard", ì
WSedit supports all Wordstar control commands. The control-key is abbreviated ì
"Ctrl" or "^" in the documentation. To get an overview, press Ctrl-J (hold ì
Ctrl down and then press J while Ctrl is pressed). WSedit can be manipulated ì
completely with Ctrl commands without ever using the mouse. Even cursor ì
movements can be made with Ctrl commands. If you want to learn more about ì
WordStar Ctrl commands, please visit the "Ctrl commands" chapter in the WSedit ì
documentation (press F1 in WSedit). Some functions are not so important and ì
are only available by the Ctrl commands and not in the menu bar.
There are four control-key commands that require two keystrokes after pressing ì
the Ctrl key: Ctrl-K, Ctrl-O, Ctrl-Q, and Ctrl-P.
If you open the subtrees, you see that the Ctrl commands are very powerful. ì
Nevertheless, you can use all important WSedit functions without using Ctrl ì
keys.
I can recommend the usage of Ctrl commands
-áif you can type without looking at the keyboard
-áif you write a lot of text, without forgetting the Ctrl commands
-áif you have already used WordStar
-áif you hate the mouse.
To get an idea about the usefulness of Ctrl commands, try the following:
Here is some text with words in the wrong order:
one two three five four six.
Now move the cursor to the beginning of the word "five" and
-ápress Ctrl-T for "delete word"
-ápress Ctrl-F for "move cursor one word to the right"
-ápress Ctrl-U for "paste trash buffer to cursor position"
and the order of the words is corrected now. Ctrl-T has deleted the word ì
"five" and has put it to the trash buffer. The command Ctrl-U has pasted the ì
trash buffer to the current cursor location. The "trash buffer" is independent ì
from the clipboard and only reached via the Ctrl-U command.
End of Tutorial
This is the end of the short tutorial. Now you should basically know how to ì
use Write&Set. Please use the WSedit and WSformat Online-Help for specific ì
problems and the WSformat command window to learn more about dot commands.
