  3. txt2pdf successfully converts cyrillic koi8-r encoded texts.

  5. I've saved
  6. http://camel.gu.ru/links/links.phtml
  7. as text and converted it into pdf with txt2pdf (links.pdf).
  8. Both ghostview and adobe acrobat reader read the resulting file successfully.

  10. In Unix, you just need to install additional russian fonts in koi8-r
  11. encoding and slightly tune X configuration. 
  12. As long as I remember, the only thing you should do is to take one of
  13. russian font sets (like ftp://camel.gu.ru/pub/cyrillic_k.tgz), unpack it
  14. to some place and add a string like
  15.  
  16. FontPath        [path]
  17.  
  18. to XF86Config, where [path] is a path to unpacked fonts. for example, my
  19. XF86Config consists of only 2 FontPath strings:

  21. FontPath        /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyr
  22. FontPath        /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc   # created by XFree86

  25. Russian characters in koi8-r encoding cannot be read under Windows with its
  26. cp1251 encoding (and vice versa),
  27. In Windows, you should first change your regional settings to to Russia
  28. (fonts in cp1251 encoding will be installed automatically)
  29. In Windows NT:
  30. Control Panel -> Regional Settings -> Russian
  31. I also recommend to check the checkbox "Set as default locale". I have no
  32. Win95/98 machine near my workplace, but the way to change locale for them
  33. is similar to WinNT.
  34. Then convert your text file from koi8-r to cp1251
  35. This problem could be easily solved with various converters, such as
  36. fromwin/towin programs from d1489 package
  37. (ftp://ftp.kiarchive.ru/pub/unix/convert/char/d1489-1.4.tgz).
  38. Probably it's possible to make this conversion also after the PDF creation.
