  7. WHAT IS TOPICS?
  8. --------------

  10. TOPICS is a program that allows you to store information you've gleaned
  11. from reading conference mail in e-mail networks like Fidonet or online
  12. services like Compuserve.
  13.  
  14. These e-mail resources contain tons of valuable information and when
  15. reading that information it would be really nice to be able to somehow
  16. store bits of it for later referral. TOPICS offers a convenient and
  17. easy way to accomplish this.

  19. Any text that can be copied to the OS/2 clipboard can be dumped under
  20. a topic in TOPICS. So while reading your e-mail in a message reader
  21. like FrontDoor's Editor, Golden Compass, or any other message editor
  22. that runs in an OS/2 window you can have TOPICS sitting on your
  23. desktop ready to save and classify your information.

  25. The steps to doing this are outlined in the online Help provided
  26. with TOPICS.

  28. INSTALLING TOPICS:
  29. -----------------

  31. Place all the files that came with the TOPICS package in its own
  32. subdirectory. Included in the package is a file called VROBJ.DLL.
  33. This is a dynamic link library file required by all programs
  34. written with VX-REXX. Place this file in a subdirectory pointed to
  35. in your LIBPATH statement in your CONFIG.SYS file. A convenient place
  36. to move this file to is C:\OS2\DLL. This way all your VX-REXX programs
  37. can make use of this one DLL file.

  39. Included in the package is an icon for TOPICS.EXE. You can use this
  40. icon when setting up TOPICS.

  42. RUNNING TOPICS:
  43. --------------

  45. Double click on TOPICS.EXE and away you go. The first thing you should
  46. do is view the sample topic that comes with TOPICS. Click on the
  47. topic and then click on View Topic. This message will show you a sample
  48. of what a topic file looks like and will direct you to read the
  49. online help before proceeding.

  51. The DEMO VERSION of TOPICS is restricted to only 5 topics. But this
  52. should give you a real feel for how TOPICS works and in itself would
  53. be useful if you only wanted to catalog 5 topics. Most users will find
  54. that they'll want far more than just 5 topics. TOPICS can hold up to
  55. 999 different topics that you set up and is limited really only by
  56. the disk space you have. Each topic file is stored in the directory
  57. you've install TOPICS.

  62. When you order TOPICS you'll get two versions (one like the demo)
  63. and another that operates in a smaller window and takes up less screen space.
