  7. The Smalled Clipboard Extensions are an extension to the OS/2 (and Win-OS/2) 
  8. clipboard. SmeClp will extend the number of switchable clipboards to 10. Every 
  9. clipboard can be filled using a number of apend modes. Besides that, the 
  10. clipboard contents are fully editable. In essence it is written as an add on to 
  11. Smalled. However, it can be used with all Os/2 and Win-OS/2 applications.

  30.  The Smalled Clipboard Extensions will give you 10 switchable virtual 
  31. clipboards that work for OS/2 as well as for WIN-OS/2 sessions. The text in all 
  32. these clipboards is editable. 
  33.  
  34. The main SmeClp window will show the changes and actions on the currently 
  35. selected clipboard when somewhere in your system a copy or cut is performed. 
  36. This main window will show the new contents of the current clipboard, or the 
  37. cumulated contents if this is the modes you choose. 
  38.  
  39. This way you can save temporary text in one of the clipboards and select 
  40. another (empty) one without loosing the contents of the earlier copied text. 
  41. Especially with programming this can be a very convenient feature. 
  42.  
  43. SmeClp also features an internal SmeClp clipboard so that text can be copied 
  44. and pasted between the SmeClp clipboards. 
  45.  
  46. SmeClp has a number of append modi so that a cumulating effect can be achieved 
  47. for the text you copy to the clipboard. This can even be done transparantly so 
  48. that the clipboard works normal. Once the acumulated text is needed in the text 
  49. you can write it to the real clipboard.

  51. SmeClp can be operated through the main menu or very quickly by using one of 
  52. the possible popups or by employing hotkeys.

  57.  The Smalled Clipboard extension uses a main menu and several popups to control 
  58. the way it operates. The mode (way it operates) can be read in the statusbar.

  79.  Besides the normal menu, SmeClp features popups on the main edit window which 
  80.  contain the entries from the edit menu. The Statusbar also contains two popups 
  81.  as well a method to switch clipboards fast.

  84. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.1. The Statusbar ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  85.  
  86.  SmeClp has a statusbar that in function resembles the Smalled Just like 
  87. Smalled a number of areas on the statusbar can be used to trigger popups. The 
  88. SmeClp statusbar features the following area's from left to right: 
  89.  
  90.    1. Cursor position. The cursor position is shown in the form line:column. 
  91.  
  92.    2. Current clipboard. SmeClp features 10 clipboards 0..9. This area shows 
  93.       the number of the current clipboard. The default is 0. 
  94.       This area features a popup that enables you to switch between the 
  95.       clipboards fast. It is the same menu that can be found under 
  96.       Clip->select_clipboards. 
  97.       Besides a popup clipboards can also be changed by clicking once on this 
  98.       area. This will advance SmeClp to the next virtual clipboard.

  100.    3. Mode area The mode area shows the mode setting that is selected in 
  101.       Clip->Mode If an automatic mode is choosen, a A will appear before the 
  102.       mode. 
  103.       Just like the current clipboard area, this area features a popup which 
  104.       anables you to switch mode real fast. 
  105.  
  106.    4. Changed The changed area will show the word changed if an edit action is 
  107.       undertaken on the text and the contents aren't yet written to the current 
  108.       clipboard.

  111. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.2. Select clipboard ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  112.  
  113.  SmeClp contains 10 virtual clipboards. Only one of them can be active. The 
  114. text contained in the current clipboard is shown in the SmeClp main window. The 
  115. number of the current clipboard is shown in the statusbar. 
  116.  
  117. The clipboard can be changed by: 
  118.  
  119.      Selecting a clipboard number from the clipboard submenu. 
  120.      activating the clipboard popup by using the Right Mouse Button on the 
  121.       statusbar clipboard area. 
  122.      Single click the Left Mouse Button on the statusbar clipboard area. 
  123.  
  124.  If another clipboard is selected, the contents of the current clipboard are 
  125.  saved and the contents of the selected clipboard is shown. The contents of the 
  126.  current clipboard are automaticly saved for the user update mode if the 
  127.  clipboard is in append prepend or insert mode.

  132.  SmeClp can operate in a large number of modes. The mode in which SmeClp is 
  133. currently operating is shown in the statusbar. The operating modus depends on 
  134. two settings. 
  135.  
  136.    1. Insertion type 
  137.    2. Update mode 
  138.  
  139.  These mode settings only matter when SmeClp is not in Normal mode. In Normal 
  140.  mode the currently selected clipboard will act as the normal system clipboard. 
  141.  With the difference that it can be edited. 
  142.  
  143.  The insertion modes 
  144.  
  145.  The insertion modes can be used to let SmeClp accululate the text you send to 
  146.  the clipboard by invoking a cut or copy action somewhere in your system. The 
  147.  text you send to the clipboard is added to the text already present in the 
  148.  clipboard. The available modes are: 
  149.  
  150.  Prepend:   Text is inserted at the top of the current contents of the 
  151.             clipboard. 
  152.  
  153.  Insert:    Text is inserted at the current curser possition in the SmeClp edit 
  154.             window. 
  155.  
  156.  Append:    Text is inserted at the end of the current clipboard text. 
  157.  
  158.  The update modes 
  159.  
  160.  The update mode dictates the way SmeClp handles the inserted text. The idea 
  161.  behind these modes is that you may want to accumulate a list of text items 
  162.  without having all of them in the clipboard. To accomplish this SmeClp has two 
  163.  update modi. An automatic and a user update. 
  164.  
  165.  Automatic:    When the text is inserted in the already present text, SmeClp 
  166.                takes the completely accumulated text and puts it in the 
  167.                clipboard. This makes the contents of the main SmeClp window 
  168.                available on the clipboard. So if a paste is invoked somewhere 
  169.                on your system, the complete contents of the SmeClp window are 
  170.                use in this paste action. 
  171.  
  172.  User:         When text is inserted into the clipboard, the main SmeClp window 
  173.                is updated to show this change. When SmeClp is in User update 
  174.                mode, the contents of the clipboard aren't changed. Despite the 
  175.                fact that SmeClp shows the accumulated text elements, the 
  176.                clipboard only contains the text copied to the clipboard. To 
  177.                make the accumulated text available in the SmeClp main window 
  178.                the Save to Clipboard function has to be invoked.

  180.  The current mode for SmeClp is shown in the statusbar If SmeClp is in 
  181.  Automatic mode, an A is showing in front of the insertion mode. 
  182.  
  183.  To change the mode you can use the main menu or the popup that lies underneath 
  184.  the statusbar mode area. Use the Right Mouse Button to invoke this popup.

  187. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.4. Save to clipboard ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  188.  
  189.  The save to clipboard option may sound a little confusing. This options saves 
  190. the contents of the SmeClp main window to the clipboerd. There are a number 
  191. situations that the SMECLP main window will show something different then the 
  192. clipboard contains. 
  193.  
  194.    1. SmeClp is in user update mode and it is in append, prepend or insert mode 
  195.       This means SmeClp accumulates the text data in the SmeClp main window 
  196.       while the clipboard only contains the data copied to the cliopboard. 
  197.  
  198.    2. After editing the SmeClp contents SmeClp lets you edit the data shown in 
  199.       the main window. If the data in SmeClp are changed this way the statusbar 
  200.       will show that these data are changed. If you want the clipboard to 
  201.       contain these changed data, the Save to clipboard option must be used.

  206.  Exit simply quits SmeClp. All the data in the other then the current clipboard 
  207. will be discarded. If the Statusbar indicates thst the data in the main window 
  208. are changed, make sure you save them using Save to clipboard if you like to 
  209. contain the clipboard to contain these data.

  211. After exiting SmeClp your system will contain only one clipboard.

  214. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.6. Undo ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  215.  
  216.  Undo can be used when editing to undo the last update or insert action. The 
  217. Undo buffer for SmeClp is only one entry long. This means only the last action 
  218. can be undone.

  221. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.7. Copy, Cut, Paste ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  222.  
  223.  SmeClp supports an internal clipboard that is detached from the main 
  224. clipboard. So using Cut, Copy or Paste inside SmeClp doesn't affect the main 
  225. clipboard.

  227. The internal clipboard is used to copy data among different clipboards. To 
  228. achive this, first copy or cut data to the internal clipboard, then change 
  229. clipboards and paste the data.

  234.  Clear deletes the currently selected data.

  239.  Goto enables you to jump to a certain line in the SmeClp main window. The 
  240. statusbar will show the linenumber jumped to.

  243. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.10. Find / Find again ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  245.  Find and Find again can be used to find text in the current SmeClp window. 
  246.  
  247. In the find dialog a find item can be entered. The maximum length of a find 
  248. item is 64 characters. If the find button is hit, a search will be conducted 
  249. through the text. Normally a search will start at the current cursor position 
  250. and keep searching until the end of the file is reached or the desired item is 
  251. found. By checking the global checkbox, the search will be conducted from the 
  252. top of the file. Through the second checkbox, the search can be made 
  253. case-sensitive. This means that an exact match of the search-item concerning 
  254. upper- and lower case characters is performed. If this checkbox isn't flagged, 
  255. the search doesn't make a difference between upper- and lower case characters. 
  256. If a match is found, it will be hilited (selected). If no matching item is 
  257. found, a message is displayed. 
  258.  
  259. If an item is found, the find dialog will dissapear. If the entered item has to 
  260. be searched again,  it's possible to invoke the Find option again. Although a 
  261. simpler aproach is to use the Find again option.

  264. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.11. Replace ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  265.  
  266.  In the replace dialog, a target string and a replacement string can be 
  267. entered. With these strings, several actions can be started. 
  268.  
  269. - Next: if an item has already been found and selected, Next will try to find 
  270. the next match from the cursor on down. If a match has been selected, Next will 
  271. leave it alone and will try to find the next match. 
  272.  
  273. - Replace: if no item has yet been found, the replace action will first locate 
  274. a possible match and select it. This match isn't replaced yet. If replace is 
  275. hit again, the selected match will be replaced and Smalled will try to locate 
  276. the next match from the cursor on down. 
  277.  
  278. - All: All will replace all matches from the cursor on down, without prompting 
  279. the user. 
  280.  
  281. - Cancel: cancels the replace action and closes the replace dialog. 
  282.  
  283. If no replacement string is entered and the replace action is started, the 
  284. target string  is deleted (when found). 
  285.  
  286. The replace dialog has two checkboxes. If Global is checked, the first search 
  287. for the target-item will be conducted from the top of the file, if it concernes 
  288. the replace key and the all key. Next always searches from the cursor position. 
  289. If global isn't checked, the search always goes from the current cursor 
  290. position.

  295.  Select all will make a selection of all the text entered in SmeClp.

  300.  Through the font dialog a font can be set as current font. If SmeClp is 
  301. closed, the selected font wil be saved and used the next time SmeClp is 
  302. started.

  304. A more elegant way is to use Drag-n-Drop. By opening the font palette in the 
  305. system setup folder, you can select a font and drop it on the edit area. SmeClp 
  306. will change the current font to the dropped font.

  309. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.14. Wrap ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  311.  Wrap will change the wrap mode of SmeClp. When checked, the wrap mode of 
  312. SmeClp is word wrap. This means the lines in SmeClp will be broken so that they 
  313. fit in the SmeClp window.

  318.  The Smalled Clipboard Extensions are free for registered Smalled users. When 
  319. started SmeClp will check if you're a registered Smalled user. If not, it 
  320. checks if you're a registered SmeClp user. If this check also failes, a 
  321. dialogbox will be displayed for 5 seconds reminding you that you are not a 
  322. registered user. This dialog box will reappear every-time you change 
  323. clipboards.

  325. If you like SmeClp and want to keep using it, you have to register it. In 
  326. SmeClp's case, this means you've got to buy a registration key. This key will 
  327. blockout the reminder dialog. To buy a registration key, you first have to 
  328. produce a personal key. This can be done by using the register dialog that can 
  329. be activated by the register menu option under the Help menu.

  331. To obtain a registration key you first have to activate the register menu 
  332. option in the help menu. (See also the ORDER.CLP file.).

  334. Also included in this package is the purchase.exe program. This program makes 
  335. it possible to register SmeClp online through BMT micro. (Check it out very

  439. interface for  Smalled is highly intuitive and has a slick fast way of 
  440. operating. Smalled takes full  advantage of OS/2 features like Drag-n-Drop, 
  441. EA's, multi-threading, ATM fonts, WPS, etc.,  so that it blends perfectly into 
  442. your system. It's easy to set up as the default editor for all  editing jobs.

  474.  The Smalled HTML Extensions can be downloaded as SMEHTM11.ZIP from the Hobbes, 
  475.  the BMT Micro and other anonymous OS/2 sites.

  477.  SMEHTM can work with Smalled, E.exe and other MLE based editors and turn them 
  478.  into dedicated HTML editors. It acts as a small notebook that floats on-top 
  479.  and that can be used to insert HTML tags into the text that is being edited It 
  480.  supports a very large part of the HTML code set. Besides that, a version for 
  481.  INF editing being prepared. Here is a screenshot of the bitmapped pagetags to 
  482.  give an impression.

  484.  Registering SMEHTM costs 15$. However, if it's registered with Smalled, the 
  485.  total package is 25$. This means a discount of 7$ on SMEHTM.

  488.  
  489.  Confed, currently in version 0.8, is a config.sys editor. On the outside it 
  490.  has the same look and feel of Smalled. This application makes editing/creating 
  491.  the config.sys real easy. It features custom edit controls for the config 
  492.  commands, on-line help for the config.sys, and most of the features of Smalled 
  493.  like Multithreading, direct manipulation, button-bar, etc. Check it out.
