  3. This is an addendum to the instructions for the footnote macros
  4. in FNOTE1.ZIP that I uploaded recently. In my quest to keep the 
  5. size of the FNOTE1.ZIP file to a decently small size, I first took
  6. all of the macros and saved them as ASCII text. This got rid of a lot
  7. of the DeScribe overhead. I didn't save FOOTINST.ALL as ASCII. I tried
  8. to but whenever I opened it up, DeScribe insisted, for some unknown 
  9. reason, on treating it like a Peachtree 5000 2.1 file (whatever that 
  10. is) and it really destroyed the FOOTINST.ALL macro.

  12. So, the other 15 macros were much smaller than they would be if they
  13. had been saved as DeScribe files.

  15. That's the good news.....

  17. The bad news is that I have come to find that, although the newly compiled
  18. macros (saved as ASCII) will compile successfully, and will work during 
  19. that session of DeScribe, they will not be recognized as DeScribe macros 
  20. the next time you start DeScribe. I've always saved my macros as DeScribe 
  21. documents so I never noticed this behavior. I did test the ZIP file I 
  22. uploaded, and it compiled all the macros as I expected. BUT I hadn't tried 
  23. running them until just now.

  25. Enough excuses...please accept my apologies.

  27. You will have to open these 15 macro files (they all start with FOOT*) and 
  28. save them as DeScribe format files. Then the macros will retain whatever it 
  29. is that DeScribe expects to see when it runs them.

  31. A WARNING though!!

  33. Some of the macros have some very long lines. If these lines get 
  34. word-wrapped it will cause the macro to fail.

  36. The Page Definition format that these files were saved in was "Program" 
  37. which by default is 40 inches wide, so unless you have changed the 
  38. "Program" layout file, the words shouldn't wrap.

  40. If you have changed this layout, then change the point size of the document
  41. to 6pts just to be sure.

  43. If you get errors in the macro when you run them, please check the macro file
  44. first to make sure none of the lines are wrapped.
