README FILE FOR E.EXE 7/20/93
This is the original System Editor from OS/2 1.1. It is an OS/2 Full Screen
Text Based Application, which means you can use it to edit your CONFIG.SYS
after booting the Installation or Utility Diskettes. If you have an HPFS
volume and OS/2 will not boot due to problems in the CONFIG.SYS, you must
boot OS/2 from floppy to access your HPFS volumes. There is no way to start
an editor, however, as the DOS editor will not run and the current editors
shipped with OS/2 require that Presentation Manager be loaded. You can use
this editor to get around this difficulty.
!!NOTE!! This program may not run correctly if run in an OS/2 Window or Full
screen under OS/2. Use it only after booting from the installation
or utility diskettes. There is another editor called E.EXE in the
\OS2\APPS directory. This is a PM app and will not run after booting
from diskettes. Take care NOT to erase the current version of E if
you install this one on your hard drive.
Directions:
1. Copy the files E.EXE, E.DEF, & E.MSG to a floppy diskette.
2. Boot OS/2 from floppies & get to a command prompt.
3. Insert the disk with E on it and type "E X:\CONFIG.SYS" where X is
the partition w/ OS/2 on it.
4. Edit the file as needed. The program comes w/ extensive on line help; use
F1 to view it.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
This program is supplied "as is" from a withdrawn version of OS/2 for the

from floppies. It is not guaranteed to work in any way. The user assumes full
