ADDRESS1: Example list of addresses used for mail merge
A Clearlook mail merge is always based on two different documents: the source document which contains the data being merged (such as names and addresses) and a merge format (called a transform in earlier versions of Clearlook) which contains the model or sample of the desired result. Information in the source document is marked and then merged into the datafields of the merge format. The result is a third document which contains a copy of the model document for each set of markings in the source document.
In this sample source document, each name and address in the list below is marked with a single marking attribute: address.
In the corresponding merge format, LETTER-1.CTX, the name and address is picked up as a single datafield (number 300). The ENV-1.CTX merge format is similar, but models an envelope rather than a letter.
To perform the sample mail merge, use the Tools | Merge function and select LETTER-1.CTX as the merge format. A new, unnamed document containing a complete copy of LETTER-1 for each name and address will be created. Text which is not marked in this source document, such as this descriptive text, will not appear in the new document.
Note that the ADDRESS2 example takes a different approach by using multiple marking attributes for different parts of the name and address.
