  1.     BEAV (Binary Editor And Viewer), is a full featured binary file 
  2. editor.      Just about any operation that you could want to do to a binary 
  3. file is possible with BEAV.   You can insert or delete in the middle of 
  4. a file thereby changing it's size.   You can edit multiple files in 
  5. multiple windows and cut and paste between them.   You can display and 
  6. edit data in hex, octal, decimal, binary, ascii, or ebcdic formats.   You 
  7. can display data in byte, word, or long word formats in either Intel or 
  8. Motorola byte ordering.   You can send the formatted display mode to a 
  9. file or printer.

  11.     BEAV is based on the source for emacs for display and keyboard 
  12. handling functions.   The binary file handling and display formats are 
  13. special to BEAV.   There is a full manual included in this release.

  28. Select the appropriate one and rename it to makefile.   Run make.

  30. BEAV has been run on the following machines;

  39.     The old Wang PC

  41.     BEAV has international language support.   All language dependent
  42. text strings are in a seperate file.   The English language text file
  43. is called english.c.   The language that is desired should have it's
  44. "<lang>.c" file copied to language.c.   This is the file that will be
  45. complied and linked.   This initial release of the international language
  46. support contains only an english.c file.  The language.c file supplied
  47. is a copy of the english.c file.

  56.       Version 1.40 (3/31/93) of BEAV contains the following
  57. enhancements;
  58.  
  59. *        Support for different languages.   All English text 
  60.     strings are contained in a seperate file.   I would like to 
  61.     get translations to other languages.   I will then include 
  62.     them in future releases.   Key codes are 8 bit values now.   
  63.     This allows extended character sets.
  64.  
  65. *        A bug has been fixed in the search command.   If the 
  66.     backspace key was hit while entering the search string, some 
  67.     error messages were displayed.
  68.  
  69. *        Another bug has been fixed in the search command.   
  70.     While entering a search pattern if you went back and inserted 
  71.     characters in the search pattern the cursor would advance one 
  72.     position too far.

  74. *        BEAV will compile under OS/2.   There is a makefile
  75.     called makefile.os2.   The OS/2 support is thanks to
