  7. NAME
  8.        antiword - show the text and images of MS Word documents
  9.  
  10. SYNOPSIS
  11.        antiword [ options ] wordfiles
  12.  
  13. DESCRIPTION
  14.        Antiword  is an application that displays the text and the
  15.        images of Microsoft Word documents.  Only  documents  made
  16.        by MS Word version 6 or later are supported.
  17.  
  18. OPTIONS
  19.        -h     Give a help message.
  20.  
  21.        -i image level
  22.               The image level decides how images will be shown.
  23.  
  24.               0: Use  non-standard  extentions  from Ghostscript.
  25.                  This output may  not  print  on  any  PostScript
  26.                  printer,  but  is useful in case no hard-copy is
  27.                  needed. It is also  useful  when  Gostscript  is
  28.                  used as a filter to print a PostScript file to a
  29.                  non-PostScript printer.

  31.               1: Show no images.
  32.  
  33.               2: PostScript level 2 compatible. (default)
  34.  
  35.               3: PostScript level  3  compatible.  (EXPERIMENTAL,
  36.                  Portable  Network  Graphics (PNG) images are not
  37.                  printed correctly)

  39.        -m mapping file
  40.               This file is used to map Unicode characters to your
  41.               local  character  set.  The default is UTF-8.txt in
  42.               locales that support UTF-8 and 8859-1.txt in  other
  43.               locales.

  45.        -p papersize
  46.               Output  in  PostScript  form. Printable on paper of
  47.               the given size: 10x14, a3, a4, a5, b4,  b5,  execu¡
  48.               tive, folio, legal, letter, note, quarto, statement
  49.               or tabloid.

  51.        -s     Include text  with  the  so  called  "hidden  text"
  52.               attribute.

  54.        -t     Output in text form. (default)
  55.  
  56.        -w width
  57.               In text mode this is the width of a line in charac¡
  58.               ters. A value of zero puts an entire paragraph on a
  59.               line,  useful when the text is to used as input for
  60.               an other wordprocessor. This value  is  ignored  in
  61.

  79.               1: In  Postscript  mode:  encode  in the ISO-8859-1
  80.                  character  set.    (This   option   implies   -m

  84.                  character  set.    (This   option   implies   -m
  85.                  8859-2.txt) (EXPERIMENTAL and UNTESTED)

  88.        $/opt/antiword/share/8859-1.txt,
  89.        $HOME/.antiword/8859-1.txt  and friends:
  90.               Global and local mapping files (see -m option)
  91.  
  92.        /opt/antiword/share/fontnames, $HOME/.antiword/fontnames:
  93.               Global  and  local  versions of the fontnames file.
  94.               This file contains the translation table from  font
  95.               names  as  used  by  MS  Word  to fontnames used by
  96.               PostScript.

  98.        NOTE:
  99.               A global file will be used when the  local  one  is
  100.               not available.

  102. ENVIRONMENT
  103.        Antiword  uses  the  environment variable ``HOME'' to find
  104.        the home directory of the user. When in text mode it  uses
  105.        the  variable  ``COLUMNS''  to set the width of the output
  106.        (unless overridden by the -w option).
  107.  
  108. BUGS
  109.        Antiword is far from complete.  Many  features  are  still
  110.        missing. Many images are not shown yet. Some of the images
  111.        that are shown, are shown in the wrong place.
