  1. Welcome to Blackbeard/2.  We hope you will enjoy using the high performance
  2. easy to use editor, Blackbeard/2.  In addition to Blackbeard/2 your diskette
  3. contains several useful programs and files.  The following is a brief
  4. description of these programs.
  5.  
  6. BB2MAN.CMD  will generate the Blackbeard/2 documentation into a file called
  7. BB2.DOC.
  8.  
  9. S2GMAN.EXE is the documentation generator.  SGMAN.DOC explains how to use the
  10. generator to generate the Blackbeard/2 manual.
  11.  
  12. The current language files is for C.  Contributions are welcomed for these
  13. languages, or any other you may use, e.g., Pascal, BASIC.
  14.  
  15. If you are an OEM, e.g., a compiler developer, we are very interested in having
  16. you include Blackbeard with your product.  We are also interested in developing
  17. customized versions of Blackbeard to meet your specific product requirements.
  18. Please contact us so that we may mutually benefit from each other expertise.
  19. We are very flexible in our working arrangements, and understand the dynamic
  20. nature of the personal computer software market.

  24. This version includes all known bug fixes, and contains several major
  25. enhancements.
  26.  
  27. 1.  MACROS.  The Macro facility has been completely rewritten to support long
  28. names for macros and more sophisticated read/write storage.  This facility
  29. although new to Blackbeard/2 has been thoroughly tested for several
  30. months in other products.

  32. 2. HELP. The Help facility has been completely rewritten to support a
  33. hypertext stlye of exploration. The speed of search has been accomplished by
  34. using a B+ tree index file. The actual contents of the help file have been
  35. substantially revised as well.

  37. 3.  COMPILE/REVIEW.  Cleaned up, and tested.  Some memory saving tricks used.
  38. Works well with Compilers generating standard error output and the grep
  39. program.

  41. 4.  LANGUAGE TEMPLATES.  The language templates have been significantly
  42. improved to support duplication and optional symbols. A function to insert
  43. the first language symbol directly is also available.
  44.  
  45. 5.  KEY BINDING.  Blackbeard/2 now supports multi level key binding.
  46. Notice that Alt-L is a meta-key for the language template functions.  Although
  47. multi-level binding is not available at the user level yet (available real soon
  48. now), this enhancement will make enhancement installation easier. More
  49. importantly, key binding is now available inside Blackbeard/2 directly.
  50. The Blackbeard compiler is gone.

  52. 6. LOG. The Captain's Log is a remarkable addition that provides the ability
  53. to undo file changes, even across editing sessions. The log has been tested
  54. since version 1.03 of Captain Blackbeard.  It is very stable, although only
  55. minimal error checking is currently performed.  If logging is always left on,
  56. it works completely transparently.  Just clean up the logging directories once
  57. in a while.
