  2. This READ.ME contains supplements to the "WaveRunner Digital Modem
  3. Installation and Testing Instructions".  Additional information and
  4. software updates may be obtained from the IBM Personal Computer Company
  5. Bulletin Board System via a modem by calling 1-919-517-0001.
  6. Information may also be obtained over the INTERNET by anonymous FTP to
  7. www.raleigh.ibm.com and accessing subdirectory pub/standards/waverun.

  11. Installation Prerequisite
  12. ===================================

  14.      If you are installing THE ISDN Digital Modem in a PS/2 Model P70,
  15.      the Reference Diskette must be Version 1.04 or higher to successfully
  16.      update from the Startup Option Diskette.  If you have an earlier
  17.      version of this Reference Diskette, contact an IBM Authorized Service
  18.      Representative to obtain a new one.

  20. Testing the WaveRunner Adapter
  21. ======================

  23.      Diagnostic Test
  24.      ------------------
  25.      The NT1 Loopback test requires an NT1 that supports the S&Q maintenance
  26.      channel.  Support of the S&Q maintenance channel is an option provided
  27.      by some NT1 manufacturers.  Check the documentation supplied with your
  28.      NT1 to determine if the S&Q maintenance channel is supported.  If not,
  29.      then bypass this test.

  31.      DMA Channel Switch Setting for ISA machines
  32.      --------------------------------------------
  33.      If the DMA Channel Switch Settings on the Adapter (Switch Block S2)
  34.      do not match the DMA Channel that the Diagnostics program is
  35.      testing, the diagnostics may not be able to complete the ISDN Hardware
  36.      Tests.  When running Diagnostics, if the screen will not advance past
  37.      "Testing ISDN Hardware... ", check that the DMA channel that you specified
  38.      in Diagnostics is the same one that is selected on the adapter (Switch
  39.      Block S2).

  41. Configuring your Communications Application

  44.      Configure your communications application for a Hayes compatible
  45.      modem or Mwave compatible.
  46.      Also, configure the application to use the same Com Port that adapter
  47.      is configured for.

  57.     Installation for use with IBM LAN Distance is easier if the LAN
  58.     Distance product is installed first.  This allows the installation
  59.     program to make required modifications to LAN Distance
  60.     configuration files.  Refer to online help for more information on
  61.     configuring LAN Distance for use with ISDN Digital Modem.

  64.     LAN Distance Compatability
  65.     --------------------------

  67.     The version of the WaveRunner GCCI/ANDIS interface is compatible
  68.     with LAN Distance.  To use this code with LAN Distance do
  69.     the following:

  71.        This code requires your LAN Distance installation to be running
  72.        at CSD level LD08175 or later.  Earlier versions of LAN
  73.        Distance will not work properly.  To get CSD 8175, FTP to:

  81. IBM Communications Manager/2 (CM/2) Configuration Instructions
  82. ==============================================================

  84.     This is not intended to be an exhaustive configuration guide for
  85.     CM/2.  It is intended to explain only the ISDN specific
  86.     configuration options.  The specific protocol and application you
  87.     intend to use must be configured in addition to the items
  88.     mentioned below.

  90.     1. Shut down CM/2 if it is started.
  91.  
  92.     2. Double click on the Communications Manager Setup icon to start
  93.        the CM/2 configuration utility.
  94.  
  95.     3. Click on 'Setup'.  Verify that you are modifying the correct
  96.        configuration and click on 'OK'.  You may be asked if the
  97.        configuration you specified is to be used on the current
  98.        workstation.  Answer appropriately.

  100.     4. The PCM is configured through the SNA Phone Connect (SPC)
  101.        options.  These are configured as follows:
  102.  
  103.        SPC - Connection Manager:  This is where incoming and outgoing
  104.        phonebook entries are defined.  For outgoing calls, the bearer
  105.        capability and called party number subfields are required.  For
  106.        incoming calls, defining no subfields will indicate that all
  107.        incoming calls are to be answered.

  109.        SPC - Port Connection Manager:  From the Modem Connection
  110.        pulldown, select ISDN.  'IBM Mwave WaveRunner' should appear in
  111.        the PCM window.  Select this line and click on 'Configure'.  On
  112.        the panel that appears, you should enter the local ISDN
  113.        telephone number for your WaveRunner adapter.  Do not include
  114.        non-numeric characters such as dashes or parentheses.

  116.        SPC - Protocol Driver:  Select and configure the protocol
  117.        driver desired.
  118.  
  119.     5. The ISDN specific portions of the protocol definitions are
  120.        simply a matter of specifying the desired phonebook entries
  121.        that were created under SNA Phone Connect - Connection Manager.
  122.        How this is done will depend on which protocol is to be used.

  124.        SDLC/IDLC:  Use the SNA Phone Connect version of these protocol
  125.        definitions.  Specify the desired phonebook entries on the
  126.        configuration panel.

  128.        X.25:  The phonebook entries are under the X.25 Links panel.
  129.        On this panel, choose ISDN as the adapter type.  Under
  130.        'Additional parameters', select ISDN and configure the desired
  131.        phonebook entries.

  133.     6. Other configuration parameters should not be ISDN-specific.
