  15. This section describes the incremental changes in the current release of
  16. the PIIX Bus Master IDE Driver for IBM OS/2, version 3.00/1.02, from the
  17. previous release, version 2.06/1.02.

  19. 1. PIIX4 support has been added to PIIXIDE.ADD.  It checks if PIIX4 is
  20. present, and enables bus mastering for DMA capable devices.  The ADD
  21. assumes that UltarDMA was properly set up by the BIOS.  It doesn't program
  22. the IDE timings, or the device mode.

  24. 2. PIIXIDE.ADD ver.3.00 is backwards compatible with the previous version.

  26. 3. INSTALL.EXE and UNINST.EXE have not been updated for PIIX4.
  27. PIIXIDE.ADD and PIIXIDE.FLT must me installed manually on a PIIX4
  28. system (see README.TXT).

  36. previous release, version 2.05/1.02.

  40. configurations.

  46. This document describes the incremental changes in the current release of
  47. the PIIX Bus Master IDE Driver for IBM OS/2, version 2.05, from the previous
  48. release, version 1.05.

  51. 1. PIIX3 support was added.  The current release drivers will install and 
  52. enable IDE bus mastering on platforms using 82371FB (PIIX1) or 82371SB
  53. (PIIX3) in conjunction with Intel PCIsets numbered 430FX, 430HX, 430VX. 
  54. On PIIX3 platforms, PIIXIDE.ADD programs and enables the slave IDE timing 
  55. register (SIDETIM).

  57. 2. Two PIIX1 configurations are supported: one with the Primary IDE channel
  58. enabled, the other with the Secondary.
  59.  
  60. 3. Bus mastering on CD-ROM devices is supported.  PIIXIDE.FLT was added to
  61. the driver kit.  It replaces IBMIDECD.FLT and enables bus mastering for DMA
  62. capable CD-ROM drives.  The default state for bus mastering on CD-ROM drives
  63. is DISABLED.  It may be enabled with command line parameters on the
  64. PIIXIDE.ADD line in CONFIG.SYS (see README.TXT for details).

  66. 4. CD-ROM drives are programmed for the optimum supported DMA/PIO timings.

  68. 5. IOCtl interface for SMART drive support was added to PIIXIDE.ADD.

  70. 6. Bus mastering is enabled on platforms with Orion chipset, B0 stepping or
  71. later.  Bus mastering is still disabled on Orion steppings earlier then B0.

  73. 7. UNINST.EXE un-installs current release drivers (PIIXIDE.ADD and PIIXIDE.FLT),
  74. as well as the previous release (PIIXIDE.ADD only).

  76. 8. INSTALL.EXE installs current release drivers (PIIXIDE.ADD and PIIXIDE.FLT),
  77. and can also handle upgrades from the previous release (PIIXIDE.ADD only).

  79. 9. PIIXIDE.ADD and PIIXIDE.FLT are based on the latest code base for
  80. IBM1S506.ADD and IBMIDECD.FLT, respectively.
