  48. 2) ODI NOTES
  49.    =========
  50.    If you are using a NET.CFG configuration file with your ODI driver,
  51.    using "=" is not a valid syntax.
  52.  
  53.    For example, use INT 7 instead of INT=7.
  54.  
  55.    If you are using a frame type other than 802.2, please be sure to 
  56.    copy the file NET.CFG from the ODI subdirectory on your Xircom 
  57.    Network Drivers diskette to the same subdirectory where your ODI 
  58.    drivers reside on your boot disk or hard disk.

  61. 3) NOVELL NETWARE SERVER NOTES
  62.    ===========================
  63.    At the time of this release, a new version of MONITOR.NLM for
  64.    LAN drivers has been released by Novell for NetWare operating systems.
  65.    If you are running a NetWare 3.11 file server and want to use the 
  66.    Pocket Ethernet Adapter III server driver, you will need to upgrade
  67.    the MONITOR.NLM.  (There is no need to upgrade for Netware 3.12 or 4.01)

  70. 4) NDIS 3.0 NOTES
  71.    ================
  72.    This version of the Xircom NT Driver PE3NDIS.386 supports  
  73.    Windows NT version 3.1.  Microsoft has developed a driver for
  74.    the Pocket Ethernet Adapter III for Windows NT 3.5.  This driver is 
  75.    available on the Microsoft Windows NT version 3.5 CD.

  77.    Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) mode is not supported with NDIS 3.0
  78.    Windows for Workgroups and Windows NT.

  81. 5) OS/2 NOTES
  82.    ==========
  83.    The OS/2 drivers available on the disk are intended to support OS/2 
  84.    versions 2.0 and above.  These drivers do not support Microsoft OS/2 
  85.    version 1.3.

  88. 6) PPX NOTES
  89.    =========
  90.    Software support for the Xircom Parallel Port Multiplexor (PPX) is
  91.    programmed into the DOS drivers provided on the current version of the
  92.    Xircom Network Drivers diskette.  The network device driver will detect 
  93.    whether or not PPX hardware is present.  DO NOT load a separate PPX
  94.    driver (i.e., PPX.COM or PPX.SYS).
  95.  
  96.    When you use the Xircom adapter with a Xircom Parallel Port Multiplexor 
  97.    (PPX) and a printer, be sure that your printer is turned on before 
  98.    you load your network drivers.
  99.  
  100.    The Xircom Parallel Port Multiplexor is not supported with the NDIS 3.0
  101.    drivers for Windows for Workgroups and Windows NT.  Support will be 
  102.    includedin a future release.
  103.  
  104.    The PE3NDIS.OS2 and PE3ODI.OS2 drivers do not support the Xircom Parallel
  105.    Port Multiplexor (PPX).  Local printing is supported under DOS only.
  106.  
  107.    Some machines with Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) capability may not
  108.    support EPP mode when used in conjunction with a PPX.

  111. 7) EPP NOTES
  112.    =========
  113.    The drivers on this disk support personal computers (PCs) that have 
  114.    Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) capability.  To enable EPP mode on an 
  115.    EPP-capable computer, see your Xircom User's Guide.  
  116.  
  117.    This release contains newer versions of the EPP utility files.
  118.    Please note that the network drivers on this disk MUST be used
  119.    with the EPP utility files on this disk.  The EPP utility files
  120.    on this disk will support previous versions of the network drivers.

  141.    ** To enable the EPP utility on the COMPAQ LTE Lite, first use 
  142.    Compaq's SETUP program to change the default LPT port to LPT2.

  145. 8) EPP BIOS
  146.    ========
  147.    The drivers listed below support an EPP BIOS standard for 
  148.    DOS.  Since the IEEE P1284.3 standard for EPP BIOS had not reached 
  149.    final approval at the time of this release, Xircom and numerous laptop 
  150.    PC manufacturers have chosen to support one of the earlier draft 
  151.    revisions of the standard.  Specifically, this release supports draft 
  152.    revision 3, dated March 1993, of the EPP BIOS specification.
  153.    EPP BIOS support removes the need to load a separate utility to make 
  154.    use of a PC's EPP capability.  If EPP BIOS is present, the driver will 
  155.    detect it and the Pocket Ethernet Adapter III will operate in EPP mode.
  156.  
  157.    EPP BIOS is a standard for DOS with a PC's CPU operating in real mode.  
  158.    Therefore,  EPP BIOS is only supported with the following DOS drivers:
  159.  
  160.    - Novell ODI Workstation driver, PE3ODI.COM
  161.    - NDIS driver, PE3NDIS.EXE
  162.    - Packet driver, PE3PD.COM
  163.  
  164.    - KEYWORD "NOEPP"
  165.    The ODI driver configuration file, NET.CFG, contains a new keyword 
  166.    specifically for EPP BIOS.  This keyword is "NOEPP". When this 
  167.    keyword is present in the NET.CFG file, or the PROTOCOL.INI file EPP
  168.    mode, will NOT be invoked by way of EPP BIOS.

  184. 9) MACHINE-SPECIFIC ISSUES
  185.    =======================

  187.    COMPAQ LTE Lite/20 or Lite/25
  188.    -----------------------------
  189.    When running these models in EPP mode, run Compaq's setup program and
  190.    change the printer port from LPT1 to LPT2 before loading the Xircom 
  191.    EPP utility.  When the network driver is loaded, a message will 
  192.    indicate that LPT2 is being used.
  193.  
  194.    IBM PS/2 Model 70, IBM ThinkPad 720, and ThinkPad 350
  195.    -----------------------------------------------------
  196.    These machines utilize a different implementation of the parallel port
  197.    which requires the "RDS" keyword to be placed in the appropriate 
  198.    network configuration file.  If you are using ODI, place the keyword
  199.    in the NET.CFG file.  If you are using NDIS, add it to the PROTOCOL.INI
  200.    file.  Other machines may also have this different implementation and
  201.    may require this keyword to be added.

  203.    IBM ThinkPad 500 
  204.    ----------------
  205.    When using NDIS 3.0 with Windows for Workgroups 3.11 make sure that
  206.    the parallel port setting is set to OFF.  To do this, go to CMOS setup
  207.    by pressing Func+F3.  Set the parallel port setting OFF (not Auto).
  208.    The port should remain in this mode for it to function properly.  The
  209.    driver should then load normally.
  210.  
  211.    Toshiba
  212.    -------
  213.    With some Toshiba models, when using NDIS 3.0 with Windows for 
  214.    Workgroups 3.11 or with the Windows NT driver, make sure that the 
  215.    parallel port is configured to Output Only mode (not bidirectional).
  216.    To change this setting, use Toshiba's TSETUP utility.

  219. 10) XIRCOM TECHNICAL SUPPORT
  220.     ========================
  221.    To obtain technical support for your Xircom product, please call or send 
  222.    a facsimile to the appropriate number listed below.  Access the Xircom 
  223.    INFOSYS BBS at up to 14400 bps, No parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit 
  224.    (N-8-1).  Use ANSI or TTY for your terminal emulation as the Xircom BBS 
  225.    PCs do not support DEC VT-type terminal emulations.
