Phoenix Technologies Ltd 28 January 1994
2575 McCabe Way Version 2.22
Irvine, CA 92714

RELEASE NOTES
==============
Added features
==============
Phoenix revision number is now 2.22.
This release is PCMCIA version 2.00 compliant, with the additional feature of
sockets starting with zero instead of one.
PCMSS was modified and problems corrected, including: 1) On Intel PCIC
revision A, the correct number of wait states are automatically inserted.
PCMCS was modified and problems corrected, including: 1) On some Fujitsu
systems, the slight, barely audible clicking noise is silenced. 2) All PCMCIA
windows in upper memory (eg 4K for Card Services) are released. 3) Whenever a
system is warm re-booted with [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] an artificial extraction is
performed, which solves several reported problems including the "COM port
already exists" error message.
PCMSCD was modified and problems corrected, including: 1) Both APEX modems,
9600 baud and 14,400 baud, are recognized and configured on all systems,
including the IBM ThinkPad 750. (Note: The 14.4K baud modem configures at COM2
irrespective of the /COM=n parameter). 2) Under some conditions on some
hardware systems with a card inserted, the system would hang when attempting
reboot; all systems now warm reboot with cards inserted or extracted. 3) The
/LEVEL parameter now functions.
PCMATA was modified and problems corrected, including: 1) Under a DOS box in
Windows, files greater than 20 megabytes can be successfully copied. 2) A
second ATA card can now be inserted while copying large files to the first
already-inserted ATA drive.
PCMFFCS correctly recognizes and enables all Intel Series II cards.
Attempting to write data to a write-protected SRAM card yields the correct
write protected DOS error, rather that performing a system restart.
The 75+ pages of documentation was not updated, as no new features were added
or removed.

=======================================
Known Problems Currently Being Resolved
=======================================
On systems with Databook controllers, specifically Mitsubishi Apricot and a
CompuAdd laptop, socket two may not recognize Integral and some Seagate
rotating media. WD Caviar, Maxtor 105, Calluna and others configure and
operate. The Sundisk SDLP5-10 drive may not recognized by either socket.
About five percent of the time, on the Databook controller (Mitsubishi Apricot
and CompuAdd) extracting a card causes all subsequent card events to
malfunction. Thus, extracting a card on Databook-controlled system may
cause unpredictable results. Rebooting corrects this anomaly.
Occasionally, under Windows File Manager with a card extracted, about five
consecutive "Retry" attempts may cause Windows to run out of stack space and
hang the system.
Under Windows when using an Angia modem, some harmless, random ASCII
characters may appear when the modem connects/disconnects. Other modems were
tested and these ASCII characters did not appear.
When the AT&T Paradyne modem is inserted/configured with a Ricoh controller,
the Ricoh adapter speaker, if present, is uncontrollably enabled.
Some documentation and help screen confuse the slot numbering system.
Sometimes the slots (sockets) are numbered zero and one, and sometimes they
are numbered one and two. You should rely on the context of the help message
or documentation.
The EXP 1mb SRAM card under Microsoft Memcard may give the spurious message,
"This card cannot be used unless it is first erased." Ignore this message and
continue operating Memcard.
During installation, EZInstall appends the line "PATH=%PATH%;..." as the last
line in AUTOEXEC.BAT. On some systems, this location is undesirable and
should be manually relocated.
Limited testing was performed on four slot systems, with mixed results on
slots three and four.
==============
Known Problems
==============
The PCMFDD driver allows for A> or B> drive designations only, even on four
slot systems.
The Toshiba model 3300 remains unsupported and Phoenix has no current plans to
support this proprietary PCIC controller.
