  8. What This Diskette Does
  9. -----------------------
  10. The Infrared Features Diskette has drivers to support IrDA (Infrared
  11. Data Association) communication protocol.

  60. Installing the Infrared Drivers
  61. -------------------------------
  62.  
  63. Note: Install the infrared drivers before you install any
  64.       application programs that use the drivers.  Some of the
  65.       application programs replace a part of the drivers with their
  66.       own code.
  67.  
  68.  1. Insert the Infrared Features Diskette into the diskette drive.
  69.  2. Open the DOS command prompt.
  70.  3. Type A:¥ (or the drive letter for the diskette drive in your
  71.     computer) and press ENTER.
  72.  4. Type UINSTALL and press ENTER.
  73.  5. Select the appropriate operating system support.
  74.     You are prompted for the drive and path where Windows or
  75.     WIN-OS/2 is installed.  The installation utility copies
  76.     the following files to the directory where Windows or WIN-OS/2 is
  77.     installed: IBMIR.DLL, IBMIR.INI, IBMIR.386, IBMIR2.DLL, and
  78.     IBMIRVDD.SYS (for WIN-OS/2 only).

  80. If you are using the large disk support added in Windows 95 Version
  81. 4.0095b, the installation program UINSTALL might not work.  If this
  82. happens, do the following:
  83.  1. Insert this diskette into drive A.
  84.  2. Open My Computer, Control Panel, and Add/Remove Programs.
  85.  3. Click on the Windows Setup tab, and Have Disk...   Choose A:¥
  86.     and click on OK.
  87.  4. Mark IBM IR driver for Windows 3.1x by clicking on the check
  88.     box to the left of it.  Then select Install.
  89.  
  90. Windows 95 Considerations
  91. -------------------------
  92.  
  93. The ThinkPad InfraRed port might appear as a generic COM port in the
  94. Windows 95 Device Manager panel.  This is normal because such
  95. conventional infrared applications as PDA interface programs often
  96. bypass the ThinkPad driver and directly access the InfraRed port as
  97. a COM port.
  98.  
  99. The Device Manager indicates that the IR port is also a COM port as
  100. follows:
  101.  
  102.   Generic IrDA Compatible Device (COM1)
  103.  
  104. This message may vary depending on when the Windows 95 was released.
  105. When the Device Manager does not recognize the IR port as a COM port,
  106. do the following:
  107.  
  108. 1. Open the DOS prompt.
  109. 2. Type CD C:¥WINDOWS¥INF and press Enter.
  110. 3. Type COPY MSPORTS.INF MSPORTS.BAK and press Enter.
  111. 4. Type EDIT MSPORTS.INF and press Enter.
  112. 5. Locate the following line:
  113.    %*PNP0510.DeviceDesc% = NoDrv, *PNP0510 ; IR Communications Port
  114.   Change this to:
  115.    %*PNP0510.DeviceDesc% = ComPort, *PNP0510 ; IR Communications Port
  116. 6. Save the change.
  117. 7. From Device Manager, click on the IR port.  Select Remove and OK
  118.    (temporarily removing the port information from the registry).
  119.    Then select Refresh and OK.
  120. 8. Shut down and restart Windows 95.
