ALS100/100+/120/200/300 Audio Device Driver for OS/2
Version 1.16
(08/19/98)
Before you install ALS100/100+/120/200 Device Driver make sure that
you have installed OS/2 WARP Version 4.00 Revision 9.023 or later.
Enter "VER /R" from an OS/2 command prompt to verify.
This document describes the means for setting up your Sound Card for
proper operation under the OS/2 operating system environment. If you
already have OS/2 installed, please read PART 1; if not, please proceed
to PART 2 of this document. PART 3 describes the parameter options
for the Sound Card setup program ALSNDB.SYS.
PART 1 - OS/2 Already Installed (with Multimedia Software Support,
if not, Go to PART 2)
A.Installing the Sound Card device driver
PART 2 - OS/2 Not Installed
A. OS/2 Diskette Installation
B. OS/2 CD-ROM Installation (OS/2 Warp)
C. OS/2 Installed without Multimedia Support.
PART 3 - Options for ALSNDB.SYS Sound Card device driver
PART 1 - OS/2 already installed
Installing the Sound Card device driver:
1. Ensure that your Sound Card has been properly installed and power
on your system and wait for the OS/2 Desktop to appear.
2. Insert device driver diskette into your floppy disk drive.
3. From your OS/2 WarpCenter, click on "System Setup" object, then
click on the menu item "Install/Remove" and you can find the item
"Multimedia Application Install".
4. Run (click on it) the Multimedia Application Install, designate
the drive name containing the device driver diskette, then choose
the "ALS100/100+/120/200 Adapter" for installation, following
the install steps until the work is done.
5. Reboot OS/2.
PART 2 - OS/2 not installed
A. OS/2 Diskette Installation:
1. Install OS/2 and proceed to PART 1 to complete the installation of device driver
for your Sound Card.
B. OS/2 CD-ROM Installation:
1. Install OS/2 Warp (be sure to install multimedia software support)
2. Follow ALS100/100+/120/200 Device Driver for OS/2 Procedure part 1 above.
C. OS/2 Installed without Multimedia Support.
1. From the WarpCenter, Click on "System Setup" object.
2. Click on the "Install/Remove" menu item.
3. Choose "Selective Install" item, click it.
4. System Configuration Setting Environment will appear, be sure to
to set "Multimedia Device Support" to "None", Click "Next" Bottom.
5. When "OS/2 Setup and Installation" appears, Mark the check
Box of "Multimedia Software Support".
6. Choose "Install" Bottom, the software will be installed.
7. Follow ALS100/100+/120/200 Device Driver for OS/2 Procedure part 1 above.
PART 3 - Options for ALSNDB.SYS Sound Card Setup Program
The following lists the available options for the ALSNDB.SYS
sound card setup program. For example:
DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\ALSNDB.SYS 1 D1 D5 I5 A220 M4 /N:ALS01
D1/D5: The 'D' indicates the 8/16-bit DMA channel to be used.
For ALS100/100+/120/200 chip, the available channels are :
0, 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7
I5 : The 'I' means interrupt, the available interrupts are
5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 15 (for ALS100/100+/120/200)
A220 : 'A' indicates the base IO address of DSP, available ports:
220, 240, 260, 280
M4 : DMA Buffer unit (1K per unit), M4 means 4K buffer used.
ALS01 : Phiscal Device Driver name
Notice !:
1. Because the High Resolution Timer was used in this driver, while
it is taking interrupts, DOS sessions (VDMs) will not receive INT 8
or INT 1Ch calls.
