  12. IMPORTANT: READ THIS NOTICE BEFORE UPDATING YOUR SOFTWARE

  14. This Upgrade Program is for use for Adaptec Host Adapters only.  The program 
  15. is designed to enable individuals who currently own Adaptec Host Adapters to 
  16. update their drivers to most recent releases.

  18. All terms and conditions of your original Adaptec Software License apply to 
  19. this Upgrade Program. (Additional copies of the Adaptec Software License are 
  20. available upon request).

  22. WARNING:  Adaptec Software is only licensed for use with Adaptec Host 
  23. Adapters.  Unauthorized use or distribution of Adaptec Software is ILLEGAL 
  24. and PROSECUTABLE.

  26. PREPARATION:  Adaptec strongly urges you to back-up critical data prior to

  45. This document provides installation and usage information for Adaptec's

  61. 1.0     Overview
  62.  
  63. Adaptec is committed to protecting and maximizing its customer's investment 
  64. by providing easy access to most recent device driver software.  ASW-UPGRADE 
  65. is Adaptec's automatic software updating utility.  This program will search 
  66. for a valid Adaptec device driver;  if the driver is not the latest version, 
  67. it will be upgraded to the latest version.

  69. 2.0     Files Included on this Diskette
  70.  
  71. The files included on the ASW-UPGRADE diskette are:

  73. UPGRAD10.EXE  - version 1.0 of Adaptec's upgrade program
  74. DOS.ENC       - encoded file of Adaptec DOS drivers
  75. NETWARE.ENC   - encoded file of Adaptec NetWare drivers
  76. OS2.ENC       - encoded file of Adaptec OS/2 drivers
  77. CD-ROM.ENC    - encoded file of Adaptec CD-ROM drivers
  78. README.10     - ASCII file of UserÆs Manual and LetUsKnow card
  79. LETMEKNO.DOC  - Questionnaire

  81. 3.0     Requirements before running UPGRAD10
  82.  
  83. UPGRAD10 requires:
  84.  
  85. 1.  A hard disk with at least 4 megabytes of free capacity be available
  86.     at drive C:
  87. 2.  An earlier Adaptec software driver (that needs to be upgraded).
  88.  
  89. UPGRAD10 will verify that a valid older driver exists.  Once confirmed, it 
  90. will decrypt the appropriate operating system file and upgrade device driver.  
  91. The original driver will be renamed with the extension .OLD.
  92.  
  93. UPGRAD10 will look in the directory in which it is being executed and the 
  94. root directory (C:\) for a valid older driver.  If not found, UPGRAD10 will 
  95. ask for the correct path to the driver to be upgraded.

  97. 4.0     Running UPGRAD10
  98.  
  99. To run UPGRAD10, type UPGRAD10 at the DOS prompt, where xx is the release 
  100. level of the Upgrade Kit.  You must read and agree to the licensing 
  101. information that will be displayed before UPGRAD10 will continue.  If you 
  102. agree, then the screen will look similar to:

  105.  Select one of the following options to upgrade to a new release:
  106.     1.      ASPI4DOS.SYS    DOS Manager (ASW-1410)
  107.     2.      ASPI2DOS.SYS    DOS Manager (ASW-1210)
  108.     3.      AHA1540.DSK     NOVELL Manager (ASW-1440)
  109.     4.      AHA1640.DSK     NOVELL Manager (ASW-1440)
  110.     5.      AHA1740.DSK     NOVELL Manager (ASW-1440)
  111.     6.      AHA1520.DSK     NOVELL Manager (ASW-1240)
  112.     7.      ASW1440.DSK     NOVELL Manager (ASW-1440)
  113.     8.      ASW-410         CD-ROM Software
  114.     9.      ASW-1420/1220   OS/2 Software

  119. Enter a number that corresponds to the driver that you wish to upgrade.  
  120. If UPGRAD10 detects that you already have the latest version of the driver, 
  121. it will display a message similar to:

  124.        The file is already the latest version of the driver.

  127. If the original file cannot be found because it is not in the root directory 
  128. (C:\) or in the current directory, then the following message will appear:

  131.        File not found, Enter path to locate file or <ENTER> to quit:

  134. Enter the drive letter and path of the original driver to be upgraded.   
  135. Once found, UPGRAD10 will decrypt the UPGRAD10.ENC file.  This may take 
  136. several minutes.  UPGRAD10 will then display the version of both the original 
  137. driver, the version of the new driver, and request confirmation.

  140.        Found old Version 2.1 , UPGRADE to Version 3.0a? (Y/N):

  143. Enter 'Y' or 'YES' to have UPGRAD10 update the driver files and rename the 
  144. original files with the extension .OLD.

  146. 5.0     Technical Support
  147.  
  148. The latest version of ASW-UPDATE Program is always available from Adaptec's 
  149. BBS, at 408/945-7727.  This line supports 1200/2400/9600 baud using 8 data 
  150. bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity.
