  1. This file contains information that was unavailable at the time that
  2. the manual went to publishing.  It contains the following:
  3.  
  4. 1. Installation instructions for Windows NT 4.0
  5. 2. Hints for installation with OS/2
  6.

  8. IBM ISA 33.6 Plug and Play Modem Windows NT Installation
  9.  
  10. Please refer to your manual for information on selecting an open IO port
  11. and IRQ.  Please note that since Windows NT 4.0 does not support
  12. "Plug and Play" operation, the modem must have its jumpers set prior
  13. to installation.  Use one of the recommended jumper settings for the modem
  14. that are shown in your manual.

  16. Once the modem jumpers have been configured, you should install the
  17. modem in an open ISA slot and then turn on your NT computer
  18. (Workstation or Server).  Once you are booted click on the START button
  19. then move to Settings and then Control Panel to load the Windows NT
  20. Control Panel.

  22. Once you have opened the Control Panel double click on the Modem icon.
  23. This will allow you to select the installation of a new modem.
  24. Note that it is recommended that if you have previous modems installed
  25. you should remove them all from the Control Panel Modem icon and start
  26. at the beginning of this document at the START button in the main screen.

  28. Just click on NEXT to begin modem detection.
  29.  
  30. Once the detection finds the modem it will begin to query the modem
  31. looking for configuration information that could be identified in
  32. existing INF's in NT.

  34. If NT doesn't find any existing INF files with the modem information it
  35. is looking for, it will automatically select a "Standard Modem".

  37. At this point you need to select the CHANGE button.
  38.  
  39. Now, you will need to select the HAVE DISK button.
  40.  
  41. At this point you need to put your Support Diskette provided with the
  42. modem into your diskette drive and click on the OK button.  The
  43. detection should see the INF on the disk, and you will get a screen
  44. showing the IBM 33.6 ISA Plug and Play Data/Fax Modem.

  46. Select IBM 33.6 ISA Plug and Play Data/Fax Modem and then click on
  47. the OK button.

  49. Now click the NEXT button, and you should receive a message from
  50. Windows NT that the modem has been set up successfully.

  52. At this point click on the FINISH button, which will then let you
  53. edit the Modem Properties.  You may now exit this screen, and you
  54. are finished.

  59. IBM ISA 33.6 Plug and Play Modem OS/2 Installation Hint
  60.  
  61. In ALL versions of OS/2, when the modem is installed as COM3 or
  62. COM4, the CONFIG.SYS file needs to be modified.  The serial
  63. communications driver, COM.SYS, is designed to support COM1 and
  64. COM2 with no modifications.  In order for COM3 and COM4 to
  65. be used, you must modify the line in the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS
  66. file that reads:

  68.    DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\COM.SYS
  69.  
  70. by adding a parameter.  This parameter will consist of
  71. three items, separated by a comma.  The three items are:
  72.  
  73. a.  COM port number
  74. b.  Modem base I/O address
  75. c.  Modem interrupt
  76.  
  77. For COM3 and IRQ4, the statement would read:
  78.  
  79.    DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\COM.SYS (3,3E8,4)
  80.  
  81. For COM4 and IRQ5, the statement would read:
  82.  
  83.    DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\COM.SYS (4,2E8,5)

  85. Note that the modification to COM.SYS must also be
  86. performed under WARP 4.0 PnP operation, if PnP
  87. assigns the modem to COM3 or COM4.
