ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Introduction ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
VoiceDialer/2 is a voice modem speakerphone program for OS/2.
It supports Rockwell, USRobotics and Cirrus Logic voice modems.
To work modems must have a microphone and a speaker (no soundcard supported).
If not you can - with some modems (e.g. USRobotics) - use external Hand-(or
Head)Sets.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. What is New in this Version ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Configurable DTMF
Log of all calls for the month.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Installation is simple. Just unzip the archive and run install.cmd.
To Remove VoiceDialer/2 (hope you'll never do it) 1. delete the icons from your
desktop, 2. delete the VoiceDialer/2 directory with all files in it.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Setup ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
When run for the first time the program will ask for the modem settings and
save them in "vdialer2.ini".
If you have a older version of VDIAL please delete first the old vdialer2.ini
file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.1. For experienced users ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can edit the stored settings in vdialer2.ini with regedit/2 or any other
ini-editor. Be careful, edit only the values for the modem init strings and
those for the DTMF duration. The key is "\Settings\DTMFDuration" and should be
from 1 - 10 (this is x 100 ms).
If something goes wrong delete the INI-file, start VoiceDialer/2 and a new INI
file will be generated.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Usage ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Using VoiceDialer/2 is easy and normally 'self-explaining' as long as you're
accommodosized to using telephones. All options are available by doing a
'right' mouseclick.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.1. Dialing ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
1. Enter phone number by clicking on the pad, select it from the phonebook, or
use the shortcuts F1-F9.
2. Press [Dial].
3. To end conversation press [Hangup].
As soon as VoiceDialer/2 is connected to the phoneline you'll see a red
time-counter, which disappears when you press [Hangup]. All calls are logged in
a file vdxxxxxx.log (xxxxxx=current date) so you have the possibilty to control
the calls done with VoiceDialer/2.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.2. Answering ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can enable/disable RING and AUTO ANSWER with the checkboxes.
If AUTO ANSWER is unchecked - on incoming call press [Talk].
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.3. Volume Control ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
- for Rockwell and USRobotics voice modems
Use the sliders to control the volume of speaker and microphone.
You can use the checkbox that appears above the mic volume slider to
mute/unmute the microphone.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.4. Modem Settings ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Right-click and choose [Settings] from the pop-up menu.
If your modem doesn't work, or if you have an 'exotic' modem you can manually
edit the vdialer2.ini and change the init strings to the ones recommended in
your modem handbook or try to use one init string which works with your
terminal program.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.5. Display Mode ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Right-click anywhere in VoiceDialer/2 to show the pop up menu.
You can change the view mode and the font used by the program.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.6. Keyboard control ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
'0'..'9','*','#' - Add to number / generate DTMF tones in voice mode
'D' - [Dial]
'T' - [Talk]
'H' - [Hangup]
'C' - clears the phone number
Backspace - deletes one number
'\' - opens the phonebook
'F1'-'F9' - phone numbers shortcuts
'!' - flash
Note 1 : '/' = '#'
Note 2 : These keys doesn't work when the phonebook has the focus
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Phonebook ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can have many phonebook files and change them at runtime.
All phonebook functions are available via a popup menu.
The name of the file is showed in the window title.
To enter a phonenumber out of the phonebbok into the dialpad just click on one
entry and then do a click on the leftsided arrow-field. The selected phone
number is now inserted into the dialfield.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6.1. Edit the phonebook ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Open the phonebook with the phonebook button.
To add a new entry use the popup menu by doing a 'right mouse click' or press
[Ctrl-Ins].
Double click the 'Name' or 'Phone' field and enter text.
You can type any text in the 'Name' field except ":".
To delete an entry use the popup menu or press [Ctrl-Del].
The size of the phonebook and the size of the entry fields can be adjusted.
The phonebook can also be edited with a text editor by opening the
"vdialer2.phn" file. Each phone number must start on new line and optionally
ends with ":" after which can follow arbitrary text.
There is also a possibility to use ascii-files generated by databases. If the
database can't use ':' as seperator edit the generated file and replace the old
seperator (normally ',') by ':'
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Getting in Touch ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
e-mail : rossen_assenov@hotmail.com
If you don't like something in this program, discover any bugs or have any
suggestions, please let me know why or what they are by e-mailing a message.
You can also tell me what kind of modem you're using, what chipset it uses, and
what the modem returns on ATIn (n - some number, usually 1-10).
Note : Some modems return more information on 'AT#MDL?', 'AT#MFR?', 'AT#REV?'
For Rockwell modems ATI10 shows the features supported by the modem.
This program is FREEWARE, but if you like it and want to send me some money -
please, use the e-mail address to let me know.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Other ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The program is tested on the following modems :
1. Boca SoundExpression 14.4 voice modem (Cirrus Logic)
2. Texas Instruments voice modem (USR compatible chipset)
3. GENIUS voice modem (Rockwell)
4. USRobotics Sportster Voice 33.6 external
5. US ROBOTICS 33.6 SPORTSTER FLASH (ready X2 Technology)
6. US Robotics 56k Professional Message Modem
Thanks to all of you who have e-mailed me with suggestions, discovered bugs, or
had something to say about the program.
Special thanks to Aglaja Przyborski for suggestions concerning the interface,
testing and documentation. Also to Manfred Agne for spending a Sybil license.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Log feature ( debug mode ) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The log feature is helpful if you're having problems with the program.
To run VoiceDialer/2 in debug mode start it with 'log' command line parameter.
In debug mode all actions are written to a log file in your VoiceDialer/2
directory
When you do a 'right mouse click' you'll see the option log, if you select the
log button a popup window appears showing the entries in the log file.
Type some number, press [Dial], see if the modem dials.
After dialing, the modem sould go in voice mode.
If some error occured, the program will beep and should return to its initial
state.
There is 30 seconds timeout for the modem to respond.
Press [Hangup].
All actions are displayed in the log window.
Doing a right mouse click in the window you'll see several options.
-'popup message' pops the the log window in front when there are new entries
-'close on exit' closes the log window whenever you click outside the log
window
-'close' closes the log window
-'clear' clears the log window and the log file
You can send the log-file to the e-mail address above. This will help me track
where the problem is.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Known Bugs and Limitations ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
USRobotics Modems get blocked after some dials (after 5-6), no more dialing is
possible and you'll get an error. If this happens please reset your modem by
switching in off. After switching to on the modem will work normal.
