  4. New User Installation
  5. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  6.  
  7.     Create a sub-directory on your hard disk and unzip all files from
  8.     the RoboMail 1.31 distribution archive into the directory.  Start
  9.     RoboMail by typing ROBOMAIL at the DOS prompt and then follow along
  10.     with the new user instructions in the ROBOMAIL.DOC and TUTORIAL.DOC
  11.     ASCII text files to learn how to configure and use RoboMail for
  12.     your QWK-based offline reading.

  15. Upgrade Instructions
  16. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  17.  
  18.     If you have already installed version 1.3, you should use the
  19.     upgrade kit to perform the upgrade.  Download the file RM131UP.ZIP
  20.     from your local BBS or our customer support BBS at 310-374-7540 or
  21.     310-374-2367 and follow the instructions inside the zip.
  22.  
  23.     If you are using RoboMail 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2 or you are using version 
  24.     1.3 and you do not have access to the RM131UP.ZIP file, you can use 
  25.     the files contained in this archive to upgrade.  Unzip all the 
  26.     files in this archive into your RoboMail directory and overwrite 
  27.     all files EXCEPT ROBOMAIL.RTF (your tagline file).  Then, delete 
  28.     all files ending in CMX by entering the command DEL *.CMX at the 
  29.     DOS prompt.  When you start RoboMail for the first time, a data 
  30.     file conversion process will run automatically.

  33. NEW FEATURES

  36.     o   RoboMail now supports conference names up to 60 characters long.
  37.  
  38.     o   Added a Tally command to the pop-up conference listings.  You
  39.         can now press "T" whenever a conference list is displayed and
  40.         RoboMail will quickly count up the number of messages in each
  41.         conference and add a new column to the display.
  42.  
  43.     o   Added {MM}, {DD} and {YY} merge macros for creating your own
  44.         preferred date formats in messages.
  45.  
  46.     o   Added a duplicate checking routine to the pop-up Pack menu.
  47.         Press "P" at the control panel and select "Eliminate Duplicate
  48.         Messages" to use this option.  NOTE that this routine only
  49.         removes duplicates from the same message class.  Duplicates
  50.         that are spread across recent,archive and/or folders will not
  51.         be detected.  This option will be most useful if you realize
  52.         that you have mistakenly re-imported a QWK packet.
  53.  
  54.         The dupe checking routines look at the BBS ID, conference,
  55.         subject, message number, from name, to name and message text
  56.         length to determine if a message is a duplicate.  If any of
  57.         these items differs, then the message will not be flagged as a
  58.         duplicate.

  60.     o   For the convenience of Internet listserv users, RoboMail now
  61.         allows blank subject lines in messages.
  62.  
  63.     o   Added a "B" command to the message viewing screen to "B"uild a
  64.         single MESSAGE.TXT file from a multi-part post. this command is
  65.         different from the "V" command because it does not translate
  66.         ANSI escape sequences.
  67.  
  68.     o   Added manual splitting for outgoing messages.  In the internal
  69.         editor, use ALT-B (Break) to split an outgoing message at a
  70.         specific point.  In external editors, include an ascii 12
  71.         character in column 1 of the message, or use the {SPLIT} merge
  72.         macro.  The macro should be in upper case and must start in
  73.         column 1.

  79.     o   Modified QWK packet importing routines to properly handle
  80.         conference numbers above 8192.
  81.  
  82.     o   Modified the QWK CONTROL.DAT parsing routines so that they will
  83.         trim off any leading spaces from the QWK packet ID.  Some
  84.         non-standard packets (DELPHI) have this error.
  85.  
  86.     o   New DOS extender
  87.  
  88.     o   Changed the way PCBoard extended headers are presented in the
  89.         message text.  They now appear as Internet format header lines.
  90.  
  91.     o   RoboMail will now skip past internet headers when reading mail in
  92.         an internet conference.  You can view the headers by pressing
  93.         the UP or HOME keys.  Note that if the message is short, you
  94.         may still get some of the header lines on the screen.  RoboMail
  95.         will not skip past internet headers when viewing outbox
  96.         messages, so you can see where the message is going.

  98.     o   Locked down the 3 leftmost columns in the message index view
  99.  
  100.     o   Completely new database driver.  All index files now have a CDX
  101.         file name extension.  The driver is a little bit faster in some
  102.         areas and a little bit slower in others, but much more powerful
  103.         from a programming standpoint.

  105.     o   Improved lookup when pressing ALT-A or ALT-R when viewing an
  106.         OutBox message that has been exported and re-imported.

  109. FIXES

  112.     o   Fixed bug which caused incorrect line to be highlighted when
  113.         viewing a message with PCBoard extended headers doing a query.
  114.  
  115.     o   Fixed a bug which caused the last line of a message to get
  116.         truncated whenever a PCBoard extended header was contained in a
  117.         message.
  118.  
  119.     o   Optimized the initial message display routines to remove the
  120.         "ghosting" effect that could sometimes be seen when RM was
  121.         reformatting PCB extended headers.
  122.  
  123.     o   Fixed a bug in the message splitting on export routines.
  124.         Changed the message number display in the message subject to
  125.         include the total number of parts to the message.  Re-worked
  126.         "message stitching" feature so that messages which pass through
  127.         Wildcat systems, fido and Internet can still be re-assembled.
  128.         RoboMail no longer uses the asci 250+255 token when splitting
  129.         messages, but will still recognize it when re-assembling
  130.         multi-part messages.  This maintains compatibility with other
  131.         readers using the old method.

  133.     o   Fixed a bug that caused mouse selection in the query
  134.         manager to always return the first query displayed in the
  135.         window.
  136.  
  137.     o   Fixed a problem that could cause a crash when processing a
  138.         packet containing multiple zero byte attachments all with no
  139.         extensions on their file names.
  140.  
  141.     o   Fixed problem which could introduce ascii 255 characters into
  142.         the subject lines of outgoing messages.
  143.  
  144.     o   Fixed the -><- problem when editing quoted text.  This fix
  145.         means that quoted text will not be highlighted when re-editing
  146.         outbox messages.
  147.  
  148.     o   Fixed a problem in the ineternet address grabber which could
  149.         leave a period at the end of the address.

  151.     o   Fixed a rare problem which could cause the Interenet Email
  152.         conference to be assigned incorrectly during conference
  153.         reconciliation if Email conference was moved.
