  27. 1. Getting started with NewTech/2
  28. =================================
  29.   NewTech/2 is an advanced OS/2 Voice Dialer 
  30. application. Voice Dialer is the software component 
  31. that allow to use your Voice modem to do something 
  32. useful by managing many functionions of your voice 
  33. communication over convenzional phone lines. 
  34.   With NewTech you can:
  35. - Answer at incoming call
  36. - Dial any phone number (local or international)
  37. - Save your favourite phone numbers in phone book
  38. - Create a quick phone number list
  39. - Set and Modify all supported sound effects
  40.  
  41. 2. Installation
  42. ===============
  43.   This is simple procedure.
  44. 2.1. Unzip program pack in some directory
  45. 2.2. Then you can create a WPS object over you OS/2 desktop
  46.      If you do not know how to do this then start installation 
  47.      program SETUP.CMD from command prompt. 
  48.      SETUP.CMD will generate automaticaly WPS object and (or) 
  49.      start NewTech/2 online.

  51. 3. Finding Your Way around NewTech
  52. ==================================
  53.   NewTech/2 is a Multiple NoteBook Program. In only one 
  54. OS/2 window you can manage ALL voice dialer functions. 
  55. There are five chapters into NewTech Main window.

  73.   1.1. 'Control Panel' is a main dialer window. Here you can:
  74.       - Answer incoming calls
  75.       - Dial phone number
  76.       - Dial phone number from Favourite List
  77.       - Control Output Level (in voice mode)
  78.       - Control Microphone Level (in voice mode)
  79.   1.2. 'Echo Console':
  80.       - Here you can see what your modem do. This is useful
  81.         for any troubleshooting.
  82.   2.1. 'Favourite Phone List' (FPL) is a SEPARATE quick and runtime
  83.        update database of 8 phone numbers plus descriptions.
  84.        Here you can place your most important phone numbers.
  85.   2.2. 'Phone Book' is an INDEPENDENT non sorted database with 
  86.        unlimited phone index (<full name> + <phone number>).
  87.   3.1. 'Set Modem Parameters' is a section with many modem useful
  88.        settings.
  89.   3.2. 'Administration Options' is a NewTech/2 control option section.
  90.   3.3. 'Sound Options' is a NEW section. Here your can control a NEW
  91.         integrated version 2.02 Sound Effects System (SES).
  92.   4. and 5. is a respectivly NewTech/2 Help and About 
  93.         author sections.

  95. 4. Usage
  96. ========
  97. 4.1. Dialing
  98. ------------
  99.   1.) With 'active' mouse button you can type your phone number 
  100. using PHONE PANEL. There are two special buttons: 
  101. [C] clear all phone digits.
  102. [<] clear only last digit from your phone number.
  103.   2.) Press [Dial/Redial] button and wait for connection.
  104. NewTech/2 automaticaly join you into VOICE MODE after dialing.

  106. 4.2. Hang-up
  107. ------------
  108.   You must type only [Hang-Up] button. This will disconnect 
  109. you from LINE.
  110.  
  111. 4.3. Control Line Sound Values
  112. ------------------------------
  113.   The correct word is 'Levels' (not Values). When you are in-line 
  114. you can slide Volume Control (VC) object to set up new sound level 
  115. values. The VC scale is in percentage (0% to 100%).

  117. 4.4. Dial Favourite Phone Numbers
  118. ---------------------------------
  119.   This is so simple as you dial anyother phone number. There are 8
  120. buttons under [Dial/Redial] button. You can press any of them to 
  121. dial your favourite phone number.

  123. 4.5. Mute/Hold
  124. --------------
  125.   1.) Mute: when you click a [Mute] button the caption will be
  126.       changed to [Talk]. LINE is active but you and your oponent 
  127.       can not hear anything.
  128.   2.) Hold: Same as [Mute] button but in an active LINE you can 
  129.       listen your oponent but he can not listen you!

  131. 4.6. Edit Favourite Phone List
  132. ------------------------------
  133.   Just modify fields in 'Phones, Favourite Phone List' section
  134.  
  135. 4.7. Edit phone numbers in 'PHONE BOOK'
  136. ---------------------------------------
  137.   This is simple. There are two important objects in this section.
  138. There are two lists: one for Names (left) and one for Phones (right).
  139.   1.) Press [Edit] button to edit selected record from the lists.
  140.       Then you can modify values in edit boxes under sections for
  141.       'Names' and 'Phones'. 
  142.       Using [OK] you confirm edit operation.
  143.       Using [CANCEL] you cancel edit operation.
  144.   2.) Press [Insert] button to append NEW record to the lists.
  145.   3.) Press [Delete] to erase selected record.
  146.  
  147.   4.) Click [Dial] button to dial selected phone number.

  149. 4.8. Set Properties
  150. -------------------
  151.   NewTech support many options for modem customizing.
  152.   - Modem output: control Voice Modem output line.
  153.   - COM Ports: NewTech/2 support (in this version) 4 ports.
  154.   - Speaker options:
  155.     - OFF: modem speaker is always in OFF mode
  156.     - Always ON: modem speaker is always in ON mode
  157.     - ON until Carrier Detect (CD): <recomanded>
  158.     - ON during CALL: <...>
  159.   - Dial Option:
  160.     - Pulse (support old technology)
  161.     - Tone (tone signals)
  162.   - Save last phone number: save phone number into CONTROL PANEL 
  163.                             section on program exit.
  164.   - Voice modem Incoming Call Ring: activate incoming calls monitor
  165.     When this chekbox is checked you can click into Ring Option
  166.     block to set a type of incoming sound. (and test it)
  167.     NewTech/2 support PC Buzzer and WAVe file using MMOS/2.
  168.     In combobox you can select one of three supported sounds or
  169.     type your favourite sound file into editbox for this purpose.
  170.   - Autoanswer: after X RINGs NewTech/2 auto answer on incoming calls.
  171.   - Sound Effects: press [Loading Defaults] to load supported 
  172.     sounds for NewTech/2 sound events. Checkboxes in the right
  173.     activate/deactivate sound event. Buttons with LEFT arrow test
  174.     sound events.

  176. 5. Troubleshooting
  177. ==================
  178.    NewTech/2 is tested only with my modem and it works. 
  179. My modem is Texas Instruments (SmartLink) 33.6 Voice. I write
  180. NewTech/2 for my own use. The VERY big interest for 
  181. Voice dialers under OS/2 Warp (my favourite OS) take me to 
  182. rewrite NewTech/2 as a complete OS/2 Warp application 
  183. (version 2.0).

  185.    I test my program with ZiXEL Voice modem and I can not 
  186. inizialize modem after OS/2 startup using NewTech/2. 
  187. There is a simple trick to crack this problem. You must inizialize 
  188. modem (type ATZ) with some OS/2 terminal (HyperACCESS or ZOC) 
  189. before use NewTech/2. I realy do not understand this problem.
  190. Maybe I must rewrite NewTech/2 communication engine... again!

  197. Voice Dialers for OS/2 at a same time:

  200. - VoiceDialer/2, version 2.00 is Ross's program

  202. We discuss many problems in develop...and I must say...
