Modem Warrior v1.00
Copyright (C) 1999 Davy Jones Software Locker
From the ethically challenged software laboratories of DJSL comes a
utility of great practical value, Modem Warrior.
Modem Warrior gives you that extra edge in a corporate modem pool. It
allows enterprising web surfers to knock their colleagues off of a shared
modem line by cluttering the line with noise until the opponent's modem
surrenders. Rigorously tested in some of America's most mundane
corporations, Modem Warrior is sure to be a hit among people desperate
to revitalize their work day.
INSTALLATION
Modem Warrior is a simple program, requiring no modification to any
system or user files. It may be invoked from a command line, or an icon
may be created. Automatic icon creation may be performed using the
installation program, INSTALL.CMD.
COMMAND LINE
Modem Warrior uses the following command line syntax:
ModemWar {-c<COM Port>} {-l<length>} {-d<delay>} {<browser>}
<COM Port> allows specification of a different COM port (default=COM2)
<length> length of dialing string (default=5 digits)
<delay> delay between dials (default=5 seconds)
<browser> is the name of the web browser which can be executed once
the line is free. Since <browser> may involve spaces and its own
command line arguments, it MUST be the last argument.
Example:
ModemWar -cCOM4 -l8 -d2 LINKUP.EXE NETSCAPE.EXE -3
runs on COM4, using an 8 digit dialing string, waiting two seconds
between dials.
OPERATION
Once Modem Warrior is loaded, a small dialog box appears, showing the
number of dialing digits, the dialing delay, the actual dialing string,
the browser command line, and start/stop/run/exit buttons.
Changing the Length field changes the number of dialing digits. The
actual dialing string can, however, be manually modified. (A good example
of this is changing ATDT to ATM0DT, which turns the speaker off).
Modem Warrior does not begin operation until the user presses "Start".
Once this is done, the dialing will occur every Delay seconds until the
user presses Stop. Version 1.00 does not support autodetection of a
free line (hence the "Auto" button has no effect).
Once you are satisfied that the line is free, you can jump to your browser
by pressing "Run". This executes your browser, and ends Modem Warrior.
Mission accomplished.
