  1. Purpose:

  3. The files contained in 400WIN.EXE can be used to set up
  4. a Intel SatisFAXtion/400 as a Class 1 FAX under OS/2.
  5.

  7. Introduction:
  8.  
  9. The 400WIN.EXE file contained in this zipped file is from the
  10. Intel BBS (503-645-6275) and is a self-extracting file.  It was
  11. designed to setup the FAX portion of the SatisFAXtion/400 to a
  12. Class 1 FAX for use under Windows.  Since the driver is DOS-based,
  13. it can be loaded by DOS under OS/2 during startup and then used
  14. by OS/2.

  17. Installation:
  18.  
  19. 1.  If you already have the SatisFAXtion/400 modem working under OS/2:
  20.  
  21.     a)  Copy 400WIN.EXE to the directory where the SatisFAXtion/400 
  22.         software is installed (usually C:\FAX).
  23.  
  24.     b)  At a DOS prompt, change to the SatisFAXtion/400 directory
  25.         (usually C:\FAX).
  26.  
  27.     c)  Run 400WIN.EXE by typing WIN400 at the prompt and hitting
  28.         enter.  The files CLASS1.EXE and READNOW.TXT will be extracted.
  29.  
  30.     d)  Read the READNOW.TXT file provided in 400WIN.EXE and
  31.         follow the instructions for setting up the FAX under DOS.
  32.         Make certain you do not allow your Config.Sys or AutoExec.Bat
  33.         to be overwritten.  Also, when done running SETUP, do not
  34.         allow the machine to re-boot (Hit CTRL-ESC for a window list
  35.         and close the DOS session to exit.  Perform a shutdown and
  36.         then re-boot).

  38.     e)  Run the DOS window you already have setup to initialize the
  39.         SatisFAXtion/400.  The Class 1 FAX driver is now loaded.
  40.  
  41.     f)  For OS/2, use a Class 1 FAX setup with the FAX software
  42.         you have (for example, a SatisFAXtion/400e).

  45. 2.  If you do not have the SatisFAXtion/400 working under OS/2.
  46.  
  47.     a)  You must setup the modem to work under OS/2 before starting
  48.         to setup the FAX features.
  49.  
  50.     b)  Download the files SATISFAX.ZIP and/or OS2_COM.ZIP for 
  51.         instructions on setting up the SatisFAXtion/400 modem.
  52.         When done, follow the instructions above.

  63. You can use the modem or the FAX part of the SatisFAXtion/400,
  64. but not both at the same time, since the communication port
  65. is shared.  When following the instructions for initially setting
  66. up the modem features of the SatisFAXtion/400, you can use
  67. a DOS boot disk (v3.3 or higher) and use "DOS from Drive A:" in a
  68. full-screen session under OS/2 to load the software instead of
  69. booting real DOS (really helpful if you only have HPFS and OS/2
  70. loaded on your system).  This patch was tested using the "FaxWorks for
  71. OS/2" program provided in Warp OS/2.  Simple patch, but it works.
