  11.                 Selecting this option brings you to a list of networks,
  12.          which is derived from NETWORKS.LST, a master multi-net listing.
  13.          NETWORKS.LST is updated periodically as needed and should be placed
  14.          in your /DATA subdirectory.

  16.          --> IMPORTANT NOTE:  The NETWORKS.LST file is configureable
  17.                               by the sysop.

  20.          What happens after you get to the first screen of the NETWORK
  21.          Configuration depends on what type of network you're configu-
  22.          ring.

  25.          Type 1 Networks (VirtualNET-Type)
  26.          ═════════════════════════════════
  27.                 When you select this type of network, you will be prompted
  28.                 for the following information:
  29.  
  30.          1) Node Number         Your system's unique assigned network ad-
  31.                                  dress, expressed as a number (e.g., 2056).
  32.          2) Net Directory       The network directory to be used by this
  33.                                  VNET-based network; each network you set
  34.                                  up must have its own UNIQUE directory.
  35.          3) Protocols Allowed   Options are Zmodem, Ymodem, HSlink, and
  36.                                 VXY protocols
  37.          4) Protocol Prefer.    Protocol that will be used when your
  38.                                 system initiates network transfers.
  39.          5) Server              Your server's node number.
  40.          6) Server Phone #      Your server's phone number.
  41.          7) Server Call         Whether call to server is LOCAL or LONG
  42.                                  DISTANCE.
  43.          8) Server Threshold    Number of kilobytes that must be pending
  44.                                  before automatic callouts to a server are
  45.                                  allowed.  Between the Server Call and
  46.                                  Server Threshold settings, VBBS deter-
  47.                                  mines if and when to call out to your
  48.                                  server for a network transfer.  If your
  49.                                  server is LOCAL, the system will call
  50.                                  whenever the threshold is met or excee-
  51.                                  ded; if LONG DISTANCE, the system will
  52.                                  call, once per day, between the hours of
  53.                                  11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. if the threshold
  54.                                  is met or exceeded.
  55.          9) Server Macro        "Macro" file needed to log onto the ser-
  56.                                  ver's BBS, if any.  Most of the time this
  57.                                  is not needed, and can be left at <none>.
  58.          A) Server Password     Network server's password (if used).
  59.  
  60.          B) ZIP Trigger Level   Default 50k for prezipping packets before
  61.                                 initiating network callout.

  65.          C) Add/Edit/List       Used only if your system functions as the
  66.             Clients              server for other systems.  More on this
  67.                                  in a moment -- I can only indent so far.

  69.          E. Edit Extended        Permits you to designate up to four
  70.             Connections          different VirtualNET servers to connect
  71.                                  to.
  72.  
  73.          U) Uninstall This      Allows you to drop participation in a net-
  74.             Network              work.  VBBS will prompt for confirmation.

  77.          If your system functions as server for one or more other systems,
  78.          you need to configure each client separately using the C) option
  79.          above.  When you select this option, you get a screen prompting
  80.          for the following information:

  82.          1) Client Node Number          6) Client Password
  83.          2) Client Phone Number         7) Client Protocol
  84.          3) Client Call                 8) Client Compression
  85.          4) Client Threshold
  86.          5) Client Macro                D) Delete This Client

  88.          These data fields function exactly as do the "server" fields de-
  89.          scribed above.

  91.          If your system will connect to more than one VirtualNET server,
  92.          selecting option E) Edit Extended Connections  will bring up the
  93.          following menu:

  95.          1. Node Number:
  96.          2. Phone #:
  97.          3. Call:
  98.          4. Threshold:

  100.          6. Password:

  102.          To use extended connects you must set up an EXTEND.0 file
  103.          in your NET subdirectory.  Please see VirtualNet helpd.

  105.          Type 2 Networks (WWIVnet-type)

  107.                 When you select this type of network, you will be promp-
  108.          ted for the following information:
  109.  
  110.          1) Node Number         Your WWIVnet node number.
  111.          2) Data Directory      The FULL path to your WWIV \DATA direc-
  112.                                  tory.
  113.          3) Mode                This is either NET (for WWIVnet-style 
  114.                                  networks) or LINK (for WWIVLink-style
  115.                                  networks).
  116.          4) EXE Directory       The directory containing the WWIV and 
  117.                                 VWW4 executable files.
  118.          5) Dialout Init        Your modem's init string for calling 
  119.             String               WWIV systems.

  122.          Type 3 Networks (UUCP-type)
  123.          ═══════════════════════════
  124.                 When you select this type of network, you'll be prompted
  125.          for the following information:
  126.  
  127.          1) System Name         Your UUCP system address.
  128.          2) News Directory      Full path to your NEWS directory (for
  129.                                  newsgroup usage).
  130.          3) User Directory      Full path to your USER directory (for
  131.                                  E-mail usage).

  134.          Type 4 Networks (FIDO-type)
  135.          ═══════════════════════════
  136.                 When you choose this type of network, you'll be prompted
  137.          for the following information:
  138.  
  139.          1) Fido Address        Your FIDOnet address in standard format.
  140.          2) NetMail Directory   Full path to the directory into which 
  141.                                  incoming FIDOnet packets will be placed.
  142.          3) OutBound Direc-     Full path to the directory in which out-
  143.             tory                 going net packets are stored.
  144.          4) Archiver            FIDO archiver to use (e.g., PKZIP, PAK,
  145.                                 ARJ, LHA, ARC, PKPAK or HYP)
  146.          5) UnArchiver          FIDO unarchiver to use (PKUNZIP, etc.)
  147.          6) FIDO Front-End      This can be FRONTDOOR, BINKLEY, or STAND-
  148.                                  ALONE (the default).
  149.          7) Nodelist:           Name of the NODELIST
  150.          8) Zones:              Normal option is 1-7 (max 1-32767)
  151.          D) Dial List           Allows editing of your dialing list.
  152.          R) Routing             Specifies mail routing.
  153.          A) AKA's               Allows for other Fido-type networks

  155.          In each case, you may select [U] to uninstall the network; you
  156.          will be prompted for confirmation.  For more information on the
  157.          various networks available, see MULTINET.DOC and NETGUIDE.DOC,
  158.          as well as the documentation for the various network interface
  159.          softwares (see below).

  161.          --> IMPORTANT NOTE:  In order to install networks of Types 2,
  162.                               3, or 4, you will need the proper network
  163.                               interface software (VWW4.EXE, VUUCP.EXE,
  164.                               or VFIDO.EXE, respectively). These
  165.                               programs are freely available to sysops.
  166.                               You should also set up your VirtualNET
  167.                               entry for mail tossing to work properly.
