  1. Welcome to Iron Ox 3.00!  This is the second wide beta for version 3.00.
  2. This version includes a number of exciting improvements -- like a new
  3. scoring system, new fort improvements, new map display options, an
  4. "instant advisor," and new report formats.  Best of all, this version
  5. includes *full interBBS league support*, with interBBS attacks,
  6. messages, and sabotage ops!  You can run an Iron Ox league through a
  7. Fido-style network, through the Internet (via UUCP), or via almost any
  8. other kind of automatic file transfer.

  10.                             New Installation
  11.  
  12. This section used to tell you to read SYSOP.DOC to find out how to
  13. install Iron Ox.  As of this version, we've gone to a "no-docs"
  14. installation. :-)  Run INSTALL.CMD, follow the instructions on the
  15. screen, and only refer to the SYSOP.DOC section entitled "INSTALLING THE
  16. GAME" if you have problems.

  20. Again, for a basic installation, you can probably get by without reading
  21. any .DOC files.  However, the following documentation files are
  22. available for your use and reference:

  26. SAMPLE.BAT           Several sample batch files.
  27. INTERBBS.DOC         Instructions on joining or starting an Ox league.

  29. REGISTER.FRM         How to register your copy of Iron Ox.
  30. LC-OFFER.TXT         Info on a limited-time deal for league sysops!
  31. INTLREG.DOC          Registering Ox quickly with minimal long-distance.

  37.                     Upgrading from Previous Versions
  38.  
  39. This version requires a complete reset from previous versions, including
  40. Iron Ox 3.00 wide beta one.  If you're installing over v. 3.00wb1, just
  41. unpack this archive into your Iron Ox directory and run INSTALL.CMD to
  42. set up the game.  If you're installing over version 1.x or 2.x, I
  43. recommend installing from scratch in a new directory.

  45.                       Installing for InterBBS Play
  46.  
  47. For instructions on setting up an interBBS league game, check the file
  48. called INTERBBS.DOC.  If you are joining a league, you will need some
  49. setup files (OXNODES.DAT and NVDATA.NEW) from the League Coordinator
  50. before starting league play.  If you are starting a league, you'll need
  51. to create these files.  INTERBBS.DOC has instructions on how to do it.

  53. If you're looking for a league to join, INTERBBS.DOC will include a list
  54. of leagues I'm aware of.  (At the time of initial release, of course,
  55. there's only one -- the Dragon Net league we've used for beta testing.)
  56. The FidoNet IRONOX echo is the place to get the most up-to-date
  57. information.  Also, be sure to look at LC-OFFER.TXT for a special
  58. limited-time offer on registration for members of interBBS leagues.

  60.                          Registering Your Copy

  62. To find out how to register, look at the REGISTER.FRM file included in
  63. this archive.  Note that online registration via credit card is now
  64. available!  Using online registration, you will probably be able to get
  65. your key *instantly*; at worst, it should be available within 24 hours.

  67.                     Providing Feedback to the Author

  69. This is a wide beta, which means that it's unfinished software.  The 20+
  70. systems in Dragon Net League 277 and I have done everything we can to
  71. assure that the game will work the way it will supposed to, but please
  72. let me know if you run into any problems or have any suggestions for
  73. improving the game.  The file BUGRPT.FRM includes instructions on how to
  74. contact me, as well as a list of questions that help me track down bugs.
