WELCOME TO VERSION 2.01!
Thanks for trying Iron Ox for OS/2! Please read SYSOP.DOC for
instructions on installing the game.
Upgrading from version 2.00
If you're upgrading from version 2.00, this is an easy upgrade. Just
copy all the files from this archive into your Iron Ox directory, and
copy the file DRS2V5B2.DLL onto your LIBPATH (I use my \OS2\DLL\
directory). This version fixes a number of minor glitches (and one less
minor one, that was causing the program problems purging inactive
users).
Upgrading from version 1.x
If you are upgrading from version 1.x, you'll find that Ox 2.00 is an
entirely new (and much-improved) game. Because the 2.00 data files are
completely incompatible with the files from 1.x, you will need to reset
your game. At bare minimum, if you're installing over an older version,
use the commands:
C:\IRONOX>DEL *.DAT
C:\IRONOX>DEL *.IDX
to delete any obsolete 1.x data files before unzipping the 2.00 files.
The easiest way to upgrade, though, is to do a complete reinstall in a
new directory. You might even want to start fresh with a new config
file, because old settings for options like Max Game Length may no
longer be appropriate.
Naturally, if you're a registered owner of Iron Ox, your 1.x
registration key will work with Ox 2.00.
General Notes
I've made dozens of changes in the 2.0x release of Ox: the biggest are
computer-controlled players, player-selectable difficulty levels,
variable map size, and *real* support for long (up to 3-month) games.
Take a look at HISTORY.TXT for a more complete list of changes.
OXDOC.DOC is the player's manual for the game; players can read it
inside the game, but you may want to make it available in your file
area, too. REGISTER.FRM includes instructions on how to register your
copy of Ox.
With the release of 2.00, the DOS and OS/2 versions of Ox are moving in
parallel. One major change that's specific to Iron Ox for OS/2 is that
the door library code is now being distributed as a .DLL (DRS2V5B2.DLL,
included in the distribution archive). This change will make updating
Ox and the door library easier, and will save substantial memory on
multinode systems. The .DLL is a wide-beta version of my Doors/2
library for OS/2 door programming; feel free to contact me if you'd like
more information about the library.
Please let me know if you have any comments, suggestions, or problems
regarding the game! Information on contacting me is included in the
"Support" section of the sysop docs.

P.S. If you're connected to Fidonet, be aware that an IRONOX discussion
area is now available on the Zone 1 echomail backbone. This conference
is an excellent place for you to get support and for your users to get
tips and information about the game!
