This collection of files are the primary command scripts and configuration
files that operate LiveNet OS/2 BBS, 1:170/110, Tulsa, Ok, USA. All command
files are written using REXX, OS/2's enhanced batch language.
I have put this collection together to help anyone who is interested in
setting up a BBS, or seeing how I have implemented mine using REXX. It is
my hope that you will find this information useful in either starting your
own OS/2 BBS, or adding ideas to your already existing arsenal of BBS
utilities.
My machine and software configuration as of this writing is as follows:
486/33 with 16meg RAM
2-port comm card with 65540 UART
650meg and 330meg ESDI hard drive
SVGA monitor
US Robotics Dual Standard 16.8k V.32bis/V.42bis modem
TRIPP-LITE OMNI-450 LAN UPS/Line conditioner
OS/2 2.1 operating system
Maximus 2.01wb BBS
Squish 1.01 tosser/scanner
BinkleyTerm 2.59 front-end mailer
The primary command batch file which starts everything in motion is
BBS.CMD. This will start BinkleyTerm and handle the branching of all
the maintenance tasks.
One batch file 'outside' of this branching structure is LIVENET.CMD. This
batch file will start up Maximus locally.
Please note that the programs are "home-grown" for LiveNet only:
BBSMOVE
BBSREQ
BBSCHECK
PVTSCAN
NETSCAN
QC_DAILY_COLLECT
These are programs which, because they have so many hard-coded elements
that are only pertinent to my system, make them useless to others.
Mail processing can be "suspended" by creating the "tag" file
c:\bbs\logs\mail.tag (or by simply invoking STOPMAIL.CMD). This is useful to
avoid unwanted collisions when you want to start a process that needs
exclusive access to the message bases or to halt mail processing altogether
if you are working on the structure of the BBS.

LiveNet is dedicated to the support of several national discussion
groups ranging from the "Daddy Track" to OS/2 software development.
An extensive file download area is available to support the OS/2
development and user community. File Request "FILES" for a complete
list, or "NEW" for a short listing of recent acquisitions.

FidoNet : 1:170/110
ibmNET : 40:4372/0
OS2NET : 81:202/201
Fernwood OS/2 Regional Manager
Purpose Statement
-----------------
LiveNet exists to provide informational, programming, and development
support to the OS/2 community.
Support for the OS/2 community will take the following forms:
(1) LiveNet will support OS/2 forums (programming, LAN support,
etc.).
(2) LiveNet will carry an extensive shareware collection of OS/2
specific files.
(3) LiveNet will participate in all OS/2 specific networks.
Description of LiveNet
----------------------
LiveNet is connected to several OS/2 echo and file distribution sources.
The following is a description of each OS/2 source and my position within
them.
Fernwood OS/2 File Distribution
Several years ago, Emmitt Dove created the Fernwood OS/2 File
Distribution system. His goal was to help disseminate OS/2 files
easily and quickly. Today, his network stretches internationally
across the globe. LiveNet receives files directly from Emmitt's
system, and acts as a Regional Manager for Fernwood.
ibmNET
A couple of years ago, Denis Tonn of IBM/Canada created an
informal network involving several IBM employees. This network
is a landmark achievement, and will help demonstrate to IBM the
advantages and viability to FidoNet Technology based networks.
In 1992, Denis opened up the network to the US. This network is
not officially sanctioned by IBM at this time, and is still in
the experimental phases. For this reason, please conduct
yourself with the utmost courtesy when participating within any
ibmNET forums.
ibmNET distributes many OS/2 files, especially Corrective
Diskette Services and IBM employee written software.
LiveNet is a Host system for ibmNET. This means that LiveNet
receives files directly from Denis in Canada, and is responsible
to distribute the echoes and files received to several other
systems.
OS2NET
OS2NET was started by Ron Gines, an IBM employee. This network
is not as closely tied to IBM as ibmNET, and offers special
interest forums from discussions on REXX to IBM's C Set/2
compiler. OS2NET is looking into the viability of providing
support forums for third party vendors, as well as esoteric file
distributions that are not already handled by Fernwood and
ibmNET.
LiveNet is a member of OS2NET, and receives echoes and files from
a distribution source in Texas.
FidoNet
FidoNet is the founding network for special interest forums of
all types. LiveNet provides all of FidoNet's OS/2 forums and
SDS/SDN OS/2 file distributions.
Internet
LiveNet is currently looking into establishing a link into
Internet. This will provide many additional echoes and OS/2
files.
Rules of Participation in LiveNet
---------------------------------
As with any organization, whether it is construed as a hobby or not,
certain rules of conduct must be defined and upheld. They are as follows:
(1) Integrity
Above all, the integrity of each individual person sharing within
any forums supported by LiveNet or any of LiveNet's local message
areas will be upheld. When you are responding to a comment left
by another caller, you are responding to a person. People will
many times disagree on any one particular issue, but on LiveNet,
we will learn to disagree with honor.
Thus, LiveNet will not tolerate inflammatory remarks. As well as
destroying the dignity of the person at which they are directed,
they are simply unproductive.
(2) Language
Language will be kept courteous. Even though a good curse here
or there is good for the soul, LiveNet is not the appropriate
place for cursing. Find a good friend that will listen. This
includes such euphemisms as a**h***, f*** y**, etc. LiveNet has
the responsibility of sponsoring national, public forums, and
asks for a certain amount of decorum, as you would display in any
public place.
(3) Shareware
LiveNet makes available to every caller a healthy collection of
shareware files. Uploading files that are not meant for public
domain is strictly against the policies of LiveNet. This
includes any commercial products, or copyrighted programs that
are intended for over-the-counter sales.
