A FEW BRIEF NOTES ON THE ORIGINATION OF THIS ARCHIVE
This archive contains the original files found in FMTAG2.ARJ as well
as a few extra files relating to the OS/2 port of this program.
Refer to FMTAG.DOC for program usage.
I am a Maximus sysop. I used to use Maximus v2.01 under
DOS-DESQview and eventually switched to Maximus/2. I came across
FMTAG and it sounded like a useful utility, but I prefer, whenever
possible, to use native OS/2 utilities on my system (as those of you
who use Maximus/2 know, OS/2 can quite readily handle DOS programs
(at least those that do not access the COM port) with no problems
and no extra effort on the sysop's part, but doing so does cause
OS/2 to load a temporary copy of DOS which makes the system slower
and tends to fragment memory (which, I guess, causes OS/2 to swap
sooner and makes the system even slower)).
So, I asked a friend of mine, Ioannis Hadjiioannou, who has Borland
C++ for OS/2 v1.5, to compile the FMTAG source code. Included in
this archive you will find FMTAG2.EXE which is the result of the
"port". I say "port" because the compilation required no change to
the source code whatsoever.
However, I must add that, as of this date, I have not extensively
tested the OS/2 version. Also, Ioannis knows nothing of Maximus/2
other than from a user's perspective. However, as mentioned, the
port required no changes to the source code, so it will probably
work OK. The only reason I'm distributing this archive is that
after I mentioned that I had this port, a few Maximus sysops on
Fido's Muffin echo asked if they could get a hold of it.
I've included all the files in the original FMTAG10.ARJ archive, the
OS/2 executable, MSTRUCT.H (the Maximus Structure Definitions), and
a few documentation files. I've included the source as well as
MSTRUCT.H so that if you have a problem with the program, this
archive contains both the source code and include file required for
recompilation.
