These files are my setup for running a Dos-based BBS under OS/2. I run
RoboBoard which is an EGA/VGA graphical BBS program. But these settings should
apply to just about any Dos-based BBS running under OS/2 v2.1 Release GA
(off the shelf). I use FrontDoor v2.02nc for a front-end mailer.
I use FMail and Mbutil for message tossing/scanning
and maintenance. I also use X00 v1.49a for a fossil and you're welcome to try
a newer version or BNU for that matter...I've just found that this version
seems to work well on my system for now. Your mileage may vary, here's the
system I run it on:
Micronics 486DX2/66 EISA/VESA Local Bus w/256k Cache
16 Megs of RAM (60ns)
Toshiba 1.2 Gig 3.5" Fast SCSI-II Hard Drive
BusLogic EISA Bus-mastering Fast SCSI-II SCSI controller (10Mb/sec sustained,
33Mb/sec burst transfer rate)
16550 UART
ZyXEL 1496+ 19,200 baud External Modem
NEC CDR-74 External CD-ROM drive (280ms)
SoundBlaster Pro
SVGA
Irwin 250 Meg Internal Tape Backup
APC 400watt Battery Backup w/ OS/2 monitoring software
Microsoft Bus Mouse
RoboBoard v1.08
FrontDoor v2.02nc
Fmail
Mbutil
OS/2 2.1 Release GA (CD-ROM)
X00 v1.49a
I run my RoboBBS in a Dos Window under OS/2 2.1 GA. In this file I list
the settings for that window. I have also included a file called FDSETUP.TXT
which lists my FrontDoor setup and a copy of my .BAT file that runs my BBS.
This .BAT file is the EXACT same bat file I use to run my BBS under Windows
v3.1 under normal DOS. I didn't have to do any modifications to it at all. I
also didn't have to add any external drivers like Ray Gwynn's SIO/VSIO that
worked so well under the OS/2 2.1 beta. This may change in the future, but
for right now it seems to be working rather well. As new drivers are written
and I tweak more and more I'm sure this may change.
The screens in FDSETUP.TXT are the exact screens cut-n-pasted out of FD.

I didn't have to touch the majority of these as you can see, it's just knowing
the right ones to mess with basically. I installed off of the CD-Rom,
formatted the partition with HPFS, installed OS/2 with all whistles and bells,
and only changed the path setting in AUTOEXEC.BAT. I didn't change anything
in the CONFIG.SYS file either except for the DELDIR stuff which didn't work in
previous versions (haven't really tested it yet either but it used to make the
system crash if you only had it enabled, let alone use it...so far no crash).
With past versions I messed with the MAXWAIT, PRIORITY_DISK_IO, and the
DISKCACHE settings in CONFIG.SYS...as of yet I haven't had to touch these. I
have only had this running about 3 days but it's done wonderfully. I have to
applaud the folks at IBM for a job well done. Version 2.1 of OS/2 is finally
the polished powerful operating system I've been waiting on since about 3 betas
before the release of OS/2 v2.0. I hope this file helps you. If you have any
questions/comments or just want to say "Thanks" just log on my board at the
number at the top of this file or send me a netmail. CYA!
Oh, one final note, if you decide to tweak from what I have, try setting the
MAXWAIT=1 and PRIORITY_DISK_IO=NO in CONFIG.SYS.
