  5.                     INSTALLATION/UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS

  8.   **** This version of The Blue Wave Mail Door has been shipped with a
  9.        file called BWDOOR.USE.  This is a text file tutorial that can be
  10.        put online for users to download.  A full explanation of the use of
  11.        The Blue Wave Mail Door is contained within this file, along with
  12.        tips, tricks, and hints on effective usage.

  15.   NEW INSTALLATIONS
  16.   -----------------
  17.   The procedure for new installations is outlined in BWMAIL.DOC, enclosed
  18.   with this archive.

  21.   UPGRADING FROM V3.00 for OS/2 to V3.01
  22.   --------------------------------------
  23.   Upgrading an already-installed OS/2 Blue Wave Mail Door (v3.00) is simple.
  24.   Just unpack BWMAIL.ZIP to your mail door's directory, overwriting all files
  25.   contained in the mail door directory with the new files contained in the
  26.   BWMAIL.ZIP archive.

  30.   CHANGING FROM V3.00 or V3.01 for DOS to V3.01 for OS/2
  31.   ------------------------------------------------------
  32.   If you have already installed v3.0x of The Blue Wave Offline Mail Door
  33.   for Maximus (DOS), installation is a snap.  Simply copy the following
  34.   files from BWMAIL.ZIP into your current door directory:

  36.   BWMAIL.EXE
  37.   BWMAIL.OVR
  38.   BWUTILS.EXE
  39.  
  40.   The configuration files and Blue Wave user list files are the same format
  41.   as the DOS version.  After you have copied the above files, you will need
  42.   to edit the Maximus menu(s) which call The Blue Wave Mail Door in order
  43.   to pass command line parameters from Maximus to the mail door.  Please
  44.   see "INSTALLING THE BLUE WAVE MAIL DOOR INTO MAXIMUS" in BWMAIL.DOC if
  45.   you need information on how to accomplish this task.

  48.   1)  Create a file called BWDOOR.CMD in the \MAX\BLUEWAVE Directory.
  49.       The contents of this file should be as follows:

  56.   2)  To get Maximus to supply the user with a menu item to access The
  57.       Blue Wave  Mail Door,  you will  need to edit your MENUS.CTL file
  58.       (in your  \MAX directory).   You  can place  the menu item on any
  59.       system menu  you choose.   Suggested  menus are the MAIN menu and
  60.       the MESSAGE  menu.   Below is  a menu  entry that can be used for
  61.       both single and multi-line systems.  THE ENTRIES IN MENUS.CTL ARE
  62.       CASE-SENSITIVE.  ENTER THE INFORMATION EXACTLY AS SHOWN!

  66.   3)  You will need to replace your DOS archivers with archivers that will
  67.       run in an OS/2 native session.  The below excerpt is taken from
  68.       BWMAIL.DOC:

  71.             The  following   examples  have   been  tested   with  their
  72.             respective archivers and work well.  It should be noted that
  73.             PKZIP and PKUNZIP v1.02 for OS/2 Protected Mode (16-bit) are
  74.             only capable of creating and decompressing v1.10 ZIP-compat.
  75.             files.   Therefore, we recommend against using this version
  76.             with The Blue Wave Mail Door.

  78.             The InfoZip project's ZIP and UNZIP are quirky in that  ZIP
  79.             must have the "-j" command  line  parameter to  supress the
  80.             storage of path names in the  ZIP archive.   If you fail to
  81.             include the "-j" command  line  parameter,  your users will
  82.             have trouble  when  using The Blue Wave Offline Mail Reader
  83.             to read their mail packets.   The UNZIP program is also not
  84.             able to decompress files to a directory  given on a command
  85.             line.  For this reason, the mail door  CHANGES to the \WORK
  86.             directory before calling all decompression  programs.   For
  87.             UNZIP.EXE to work correctly, you must leave  off  the  "@I"
  88.             parameter.  An example is shown below.
