  1. Ok, so you've managed to pull out all of the hairs in your head?
  2. Can't get your fidonet mail working with your Adept BBS?
  3.  
  4. Welp, bald as I may be now, I am on the way to recovery as I am now pulling
  5. in several hundred messages a day.  HOWEVER, I intend to let all brand new
  6. sysops in on what I did STEP by STEP.
  7.  
  8. 1) Goto Config->Active Line->Mailer Settings -- Fill in this information
  9.    Phone # (your phone number)
  10.    BPS Rate (your max rate your modem handles)
  11.    Flags  (like V32B,V42B)
  12.    Costs (I put zeros)
  13.    Errors 200 resyncs and 0 transfer errors
  14.    Mail Proc CMD  cmd.exe /c mail.cmd %s
  15.    Select Version 7 nodelist
  16.  
  17. 2) Goto Config->Active Line->Addresses -- This information is YOUR address
  18.    For me: 1:208/613.0@FIDONET
  19.    Initially your hub may ask you for a fake address to send netmail.
  20.    In my area, I had to pass a little initiation by successfully sending him
  21.    a netmail message.  Once this was done, I then submitted an application
  22.    to the regional hub for a node address.  This was what I received and put
  23.    it here.  Initially, I used 1:3/4.0@FIDONET between me and my hub as my
  24.    fake address.  Work this one out with your hub first!

  26. 3) Goto Config->BBS->General Settings
  27.    Max Msgs Per Mail Packet: 1500  (your pref)
  28.    Max. Echo/Netmail Cost: 0 (your pref)
  29.    System Name: The Alternate Reality
  30.    SysOp Name:  Christopher Johnson
  31.    Origin Line: The Alternate Reality! * AdeptXBBS * 28.8 * (1:208/613.0)
  32.    QWK BBS ID:  ALTREAL (your pref)
  33.  
  34. 4) Goto Config->BBS->New User Defaults
  35.    Insure you give credits on the safe side.
  36.    I put 100
  37.  
  38. 5) Goto Edit->Message Areas
  39.    Create each Echomail area.
  40.    Select Force Public, Compression, and Require Real Name
  41.    Path (for me) D:\ADEPT\MESSAGE_BASES
  42.    IMPORTANT!!!-> Put YOUR address in ADDR! ADDR:1:xxx/xxx.0@Fidonet
  43.    If you do not do this, you will be kicked out to your message menu
  44.    after trying to input a mesage!

  46. 6) Next thing you need to do is configure your Gatekpr.ctl.

  91. Insure that you have the correct archiver you want!  ZIP and UNZIP should work
  92. fine for most--my hub is an AMIGA system and he uses ARC so I use it too.

  95. 7) Next insure that your area.control file is setup!

  109.        area designated in your edit->Messages setup.

  111. Important!  If your mail does not toss correctly, it could be because the
  112.             address in this file does not match the sending address received
  113.             in your packet!
  114.             When I received my packet, I quickly copied it to a temp directly
  115.             for testing purposes in case it tossed wrong.
  116.             I systematically found out that my hub sends its mail as
  117.             1:208/601.0@Fidonet.  However, his main address is 600.0.
  118.             Originally I had the above line as 600.0 and the mail would not
  119.             toss.  Lesson learned!  After some retossing, I put 2 and 2
  120.             together.

  122. 8) Next insure that your archivers file is setup correctly!  Here is mine for

  258. 9) You must also download from your hub the latest nodelist!
  259.    I use QNODE as my compiler.  Edit the QNODE.CFG to your information.
  260.    Remember that the address is YOURS!
  261.  
  262. 10)  The only place that your hub address goes in is the Routing in the
  263.      Gatekpr.ctl and in the Area.Control echo statements.
  264.  
  265. OK!  Now that we have this setup.  Troubleshoot Troubleshoot Troubleshoot!!!
  266. I hope I have reached a lot of people and that I may have solved some
  267. problems.  I find Adept a great BBS and my donations are rolling in after
  268. only 8 days.  Why?  The most common comment I get is that it is so fast!
  269. (also, my ANSI is simple and professional looking)
