Changes in GROUP version 2.18
Version 2.18 of GROUP incorporates three changes over version 2.17:
1) GROUP will no longer believe conference timestamps that are more than
24 hours in the future. This means that if you get a conference
archive dated for, say, the year 2013 it will NOT update its highwater
mark (the "bang file") to match. Since this only happens when there is
a glitch somewhere, this should make such glitches self-repairing.
2) There is now a limit of six staging areas. This was needed to free up
space on the GROUP EDIT screen. If anyone really NEEDS more than six
staging areas, please contact us at 7:520/542@AlterNet and we'll see
what we can do.
3) GROUP now allows you to specify the commands to use for the creation
and extraction of GroupMail archives. This is done on the GROUP EDIT
parameter screen. There are three different archive commands that MUST
be specified:
Archive creation command:
This is the command used to add a file to an archive. It is used
by GROUP to add files to a file distribution conference at the top
star. The default command is "ARC A5" (v5 compatible Add).
Archive add/move command:
This is the command used to move a file to an archive (i.e. add
it, and then delete it from disk). It is used by GROUP to add
mail packets and packing lists to a conference at the top star.
The default command is "ARC M5" (v5 compatible Move).
Archive extraction command:
This is the command used to extract files from an archive. It is
used by GROUP to extract male packets and distribution files from
conference archives. The default command is "ARC XO" (extract
with overwrite).
NOTE: Due to limitations of DOS, this change means that we are no
longer able to tell if an archive operation worked or not. Thus you
may get misleading error messages if your selected archive commands are
not functional. In other words, if your selected archive extraction
command results in an error condition (like "Bad command or filename"
or "Not enough memory") it will look to us exactly the same as it does
when we try to unpack something that isn't a GroupMail archive.
