Brief "addendum" docs for HeadEdit-OS/2 1.19:
HeadEdit is an OS/2 Fidonet technology sysop/point offline reader/editor
copyright (c) 1991 by M. Kimes, all rights reserved. It is free for use
in non-commercial environments. See standard disclaimer packed with the
MS-DOS version (current as of this writing is HEAD_118.LZH in SDS area
SDSXBBS). HeadEdit uses the XBBS-style message base. It is compatible
with the XGroup tosser/scanner which runs under OS/2 or MS-DOS.
The regular docs are packaged with the MS-DOS version. Sorry, only way
to edit your MSGAREAS.XBS file at this time is a text editor or the
MS-DOS XEdit. Will change soon.
Changes from DOS version 1.19:
Kill junk runs background, idle priority.
Mail import runs background, idle priority.
Clock on screen runs background, idle priority.
Help is loaded background; main menu comes up faster.
XGroup can be detatched from main menu.
Codepage can be changed from main menu.
Screen size can be changed from main menu.
Main menu slightly rearranged, centered vertically (for MB :-).
NOMOUSE config keyword dropped. Who runs OS/2 without a mouse?
No option to run XST from main menu. XST is DOS only.
Changed way global/private scans work. There's an option to put it back.
Export and print run background, idle priority, when not using all options.
Moderator breakdown runs background, idle priority.
If other threads are still running when you try to quit, HeadEdit gives
you a warning and some options. Generally, select Wait and Exit, then
minimize HeadEdit. It'll go away when the background stuff completes.
Known "bugs":
Internal editor is broken. Might fix it someday. Never did like the thing,
though.
Future plans:
Was going to add clipboard support, but PM Desktop did it for me (excellent).
Incorporate msg area editor (edit MSGAREAS.XBS in HeadEdit).
Add MSGID/REPLY hash table?
General:
I strongly advise moving your message areas to an HPFS drive. Performance
increase is considerable. The OS/2 version is now, overall, faster than
the MS-DOS version, has considerably more power and additional functionality.
It's not just a ported DOS app anymore; I like it.
