<instalpath>
Install wants to know what directory you want to install
HeadEdit into. It's probably best to give it a new
directory so you can keep these files separate from the
rest of your files. Directories will be created as
required. If you want to use the default directory,
enter .\ instead of a blank field. I SUGGEST HPFS!
NOTE: This Install assumes you're installing HeadEdit
for the first time. Make backups if not, just in case.
ESCape will exit from Install at this point.
<startat >
This is the area number that HeadEdit
will initially be in when it starts.
It can be from 1 to 512.
<netboard >
This is the area number that HeadEdit
will use as the netmail or matrix mail
area. It can be from 1 to 512.
<yourname >
Your name as you like to have it in
the From and To fields of messages.
<youraddr >
Your 5-D address (zone:net/node.point@domain).
For example, 1:380/16.0@Fidonet.
All segments of the address are required.
<nodelist >
The directory where you keep your type 6
nodelist and FIDOUSER.LST files. You can
leave this blank if you run without a
nodelist.
<editorstr >
The string to pass to CMD.EXE to invoke
your text editor. For example, Q.EXE
<origin >
Your default origin line. Identifies
your BBS. The address will be appended
to the origin you enter automagically;
don't include it here.
<almostdone>
Pick an option, any option. Use your
arrow keys to position the highlight
bar, then press [Enter]. We're almost
outta here!
BTW, the "Clean up and Quit" option will
erase most of the extraneous files that
are left over from installation. It'll
leave the original archive, though, in
case you have to (shudder) reinstall
some day.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES:
(These notes assume you've installed HeadEdit for the first time)
The HEADEDIT.CFG that was created for you is fairly simplistic. You can
customize it by loading it into your text editor. Below the few active
keywords (separated from what was the body of SAMPLE.CFG by an ENDAPP
verb) you'll find everything you always wanted to know about HeadEdit's
config file but were afraid to ask. Modify anything you like. Keep in
mind that HeadEdit will stop processing the file at that ENDAPP; you'll
want to remove (or move) it if you make changes.
You'll also need to edit XMSG.CTL before long; a control file has been
built that should suffice for most people, but you, of course, aren't
most people. A batch file (RUNXMSG.CMD) was built to make running XMSG
easy for you. XMSG is the message base maintenance utility for XBBS.
You can type XMSG without arguments and it'll give you more information
about how to use it than you ever wanted...
And, of course, you'll need to run MSGEDIT.EXE to build your
MSGAREAS.BB2 area definition file. Again, a batch file (RUNMSGDT.CMD)
was built for you to make running it easier. As it's a PM program,
however, you may want to invoke it directly from the desktop. Remember
to do so with the HeadEdit installation directory as the default
directory. Thanks to Mike Berry for all the hard work that went into
making MSGEDIT a nifty PM utility.
This may sound like a lot of work, but relax, once it's done, you need
only make changes when something doesn't suit you anymore, or you add
or delete an area. What you have now is probably enough to begin
playing with (though without any messages to play with, it probably
won't be much fun).
A batch file (HE.CMD) was created to make it easier to run HeadEdit.
You may want to take a look at it and customize it (of course, you
can run HeadEdit directly, too). HeadEdit was designed to run in a
PM VIO window, but will run fullscreen as well.
A new XGroup (0.01) for MS-DOS and OS/2 was released into SDS area
SDSXBBS simultaneously with this version of HeadEdit (which was
released into area SDSOS2). Look for it if the internal mail processor
doesn't do enough for you. Available from the author and other XBBS
Support BBSs as XGRP_001.LZH (XGRP_001.SZH for the source).
A Fido-style .PKT to/from QWK message format converter is available as
PVERT.LZH (hatched into area SOFTDIST of SDS), if you're insane...
Have you read the docs yet? If not, please take this opportunity to
RTFM before trying to use HeadEdit. Thanks, it'll save us both some
grief. If you didn't print them but want to, try
TYPE HEADEDIT.DOC > PRN
or maybe the Print Manager can do it for you. There's also a
HEADOS2.DOC that's a sort of history of the OS/2 port.
