This is the demo version of Xact 5.0e in German. It contains the latest fixes to the program. An English version is still in the works and expected some time later this year. If applicable to you, please read the internal documentation in German included with this demo package.
Even if German is not your native language, you might get impression of Xact's power by opening [->Datei->Öffnen] the demo files [\XACT\GRAFIKEN\.*XGF] included. Please note that most functions in Xact are accessible from context menus via the right mouse button; also the cursor's shape will change depending on its positioning above an object. So just try them out and play with this demo. Help is always accessible from F1. If you're interested in an overview on the program, you may want to look at my review in the May issue of OS/2 e-zine at http://www.os2ezine.com/v2n5/xact.htm.
Non-developers may also care to take a look into the \XACT\XACTREXX subdirectory. Try running the three command files (STYLE, MAP1, MAP2) there to illustrate Xact's superb REXX support. Please note that in MAP2 you may change the display by clicking on the buttons in the graph. Fortunately, the documentation for XACTREXX is already available in English. Developers may view the C-interface samples and English documentation in \XACT\XACTRPC. Both INF files are also accessible from the Xact folder.
This otherwise fully functional demo has only two limitations: (1) it will expire after September 30, 1997 and (2) on printing and export functions, "Xact Demo" will be inserted in various parts of the graph.

To create the two installation diskettes, you must unzip the XACT50GR.ZIP archive, which you have already done since you are reading this. Create the install floppies using LOADDSKF.EXE (available on you OS/2 CDROM, directly from IBM and many ftp sites) from XACT50_1.DSK and XACT50_2.DSK respectively.
Then insert Disk 1 into your diskette drive and start the install program with "Installieren"; may may select the appropriate drive and directory later on in the course (this will be obvious to you). Once installation has completed, you must shutdown and reboot to run Xact for the first time. Xact will register two classes for the table and graph objects. At any later point in time, you may run the install program again and chose "Aktualisieren" for updating your installation or "Entfernen" for complete removal of the demo program (which will require another reboot in the end).
