ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Welcome to Web Organizer ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Welcome to Web Organizer V.02.00.01 GA for OS/2.
Web Organizer (WebOrg) is a quick and easy tool to organize that ever
growing list of bookmarks for Netscape and WebExplorer. Based on your
bookmarks, and by using a full drag and drop interface, Web Organizer will
let you build categorized WebPages that will be used as your HomePage for
either Netscape or WebExplorer. This will give you the fastest access to
any site you want to visit.
Web Organizer was formerly known as WebExplorer Organizer. The "Explorer"
part was removed from the name to exclude its primary association with
WebExplorer. Yes, it still supports WebExplorer, but it also supports
Netscape.
Web Organizer is Shareware and only cost $19.95 to register. The
unregistered version is fully functional, except it is limited to a
maximum of 25 WebPages and/or Web Sites.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7.5. WebPages Page 2 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The WebPages Settings Notebook page settings deal with how certain events
are handled in the Web Pages Window. There is only one Web Pages setting
as follows:
1. Auto Sort WebPages
a. The Auto Sort WebPages determines how the Web Pages container
handles the sorting of the WebPages and WebPages' websites when
new WebPages and websites are added to it. Only one type of sort
can be chosen. If either Ascending or Descending are chosen you
will not have access to any of the other sort functions.

automatically sorted in ascending order.
3. Descending
a. When checked all added WebPages and websites are

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7.6. Register ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Register Settings Notebook page allows you to enter your registration
name and code you received from ONG SoftWare after registering Web
Organizer. There are a total of three items as follows:

Organizer.
2. Registration Key

Register push button so that Web Organizer can verify your
registration information and inform itself that you are now a
registered user.
Note: When entering your registration information it must be entered
exactly the way it was sent to you from ONG SoftWare.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Tutorial ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This tutorial will not go over every single feature and function that Web
Organizer has, but instead will explain the basics you need to start
organizing those bookmarks and building your WebPages. See Web Site
Entries Window and Web Pages Window for a complete description of all of
Web Organizer's features and functions.
Now that you have an understanding of Web Organizer's program window
layout and settings we are ready to start Web Organizer.
1. The first time you run Web Organizer the Web Sites container should
display all of your WebExplorer Quicklist entries and the Web Pages
container should display one folder with a title of "Main WebPage".
a. If you are not using WebExplorer and nothing is showing in the
Web Site Entries Window then choose the "File" menu option, then
select "Load Netscape Entries". This will load you Netscape
bookmark entries.
b. You may also want to open the settings notebook and go to the
Program page and select "Netscape Bookmark At Start", so that
the next time you load Web Organizer it will automatically load
the Netscape bookmark entries.
2. If you have read the Settings section of this documentation you may
want to change any settings that you prefer to change at this time.
3. The Main WebPage is the WebPage that will be set as your HomePage,
and the page that all other first level WebPages and websites will be
accessed from. The name of the WebPage is the title that will appear
at the top of your HomePage when WebExplorer or Netscape is started.
First, let's change the name of the Main WebPage to what you want
your HomePage named:
Alt+Left-Click on the Main WebPage name, you are now able to directly
edit the name of the Main WebPage. Edit the name to what you want,
then Left-Click on the Folder icon to save the changes or press the
ESC key to cancel the changes.
The Main WebPage should now display the WebPage name you changed it
to.
4. Now that you have the name you want for your Main WebPage, let's add
some WebPages to it. Right-Click on the Main WebPage, a context menu
will pop-up. Select the "Add New WebPage" menu option. A new WebPage
will be added with the name "New Page", enter a name for the new
WebPage you will be adding, keeping in mind that the WebPages are
used to organize similar websites.( For Example: OS/2 Pages, Sports,
etc... ) Once you have entered the name click on its icon to save
the new WebPage name. You can nest WebPages as deep as you would like,
by doing the above, except you want to Right-Click the WebPage that
you want to add another WebPage to. Also, you can edit the name of a
WebPage the same way you edited the name of the Main WebPage. Now
repeat this step a few times, so that you have a few WebPages added.
5. Now that you have a few WebPages, you can start to organize your
websites. Again, the WebPages are used to organize similar websites,
so choose a website from the Web Sites Container that would belong in
one of the WebPages you created. Now drag-n-drop that website onto
the WebPage folder you want that website added to. You will notice
that that WebPage folder now has a + next to it indicating that there
are children to that WebPage. Now press on the + next to that WebPage
in the Web Pages container to expand the tree for that WebPage. You
will notice that there is now a globe icon next to the name of the
website you just added, indicating that that is a website. You can
change the website name by using the Alt+Left-Click method mentioned
above for the Main WebPage. Now repeat these steps a few times, so
that you have a few websites added to a few WebPages. You can also
add websites to the Main WebPage as above but by dropping it on the
Main WebPage.
6. Now you can Build the WebPages to take a look at what you have
actually done. First open the Settings Notebook by the "Settings"
menu option on the main menu. Under Program settings choose either
the "Create as WebExplorer HomePage" or "Create as Netscape/2
HomePage" or neither or both depending on which browser you use. If
you choose neither then you will have to manually open the Main
WebPage from your browser. You would do this by choosing open HTML
file from you browser and opening the "main.htm" file which can be
found in the Web Organizer's pages sub-directory. Now that you have
Web Organizer set up to build the WebPages for your browser you can
Build the WebPages. Right-Click on the Main WebPage, a context menu
will pop up. Choose the "Build WebPages" menu option; this will
build the WebPages and set your browser to load the Main WebPage as
your HomePage. Remember whenever you make changes to your WebPages
and you want to save those changes you must do a Build WebPages for
those changes to be saved.
7. Now open the browser you choose and you can see the WebPage you have
created for yourself. First you will notice that the name you chose
for your Main WebPage is displayed at the top of your HomePage. Then
you have a line across the screen separating the Title of the page
and your first webpage you added. Below this line you will find the
WebPages that you added and any websites you added to the Main
WebPage. By clicking on one of the WebPages, links will bring up
that WebPage with the WebPages and/or websites you added to it. If
you are on a Sub-WebPage you will notice that below the second line
on the WebPage there is a index of all of your first-level WebPages;
this makes it easier to move among your WebPages you have added. Now
move back to the HomePage; in both WebExplorer or Netscape you can
easily move back to your homepage by clicking on the HomePage Icon on
their toolbars. On the Main WebPage you will notice at the bottom of
it, it displays the E-Mail address for ONG SoftWare, ONG SoftWare's
HomePage address, and the address for both the Frames and Non-Frames
version of the "The Complete OS/2 Links Page!" HomePage. Please
check out the "The Complete OS/2 Links Page!", it is maintained by
ONG SoftWare and is updated regularly and contains many useful OS/2
related sites( over 230 at last count ). The other two links to ONG
SoftWare give you an easy way to contact ONG SoftWare or check ONG
SoftWare's HomePage for an updated version, news, or new products.
Lastly, you will notice that it displays the version of Web Organizer
it was created by.
8. Since you now have a better understanding of what Web Organizer is
actually doing you can try some more things to better organize your
websites. Close you browser and go back to Web Organizer.
9. You can drag websites from one WebPage to another WebPage to move
websites between WebPages. If the WebPage you want to move another
WebPage website to is not visible on the screen, then you can use Web
Organizer's PickUp feature to move the website.
10. You can drag-n-drop websites onto websites in the Web Pages container
to to either replace or update the website you are dropping the new
website unto when holding the CTRL key down will dropping. This is
useful when a website you visit changes its address. You would want
to create a new quicklist or bookmark entry with the new address in
your browser and then when you use Web Organizer the next time
drag-n-drop the new website unto the old website.
11. If you have WebExplorer or Netscape URL objects in folders or on you
desktop you can also drag them to WebPages in the Web Pages container
to add them to that WebPage.
12. If you want to delete a website from either the Web Sites container
or the Web Pages container you can either use the context menu or
drag-n-drop the website to the OS/2 shredder object.
13. Everyone likes a little order in their life. You can use the Auto
Sort Feature to always have you Web Pages and web sites sorted in
Ascending or Descending order or you can do it manualy.
This is were this tutorial ends, but there are still a lot more features
and functions to Web Organizer. See Web Site Entries Window and Web Pages
Window for a complete list and description of these features and
functions.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Q&A ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
1. How do I change the look of Web Organizer( i.e. color and fonts )?
a. Web Organizer's fonts and color scheme can be changed by using
the Color and Font Palettes( found in system setup folder ) and
drag-n-drop. These changes will be saved between sessions.
2. How can I change the name of a WebPage or web site?
a. Changing the name of a WebPage or web site is done by Alt
Left-Clicking on it to directly edit the name. Then hitting ESC
to cancel the changes or Left-Clicking on its icon to save the
changes.
3. How can I tell which web sites have already been added to a Web Page?
a. In the Web Sites Window there is a menu option Show with three
options: All, Added, and Not Added. All will show all the web
sites in the currently loaded file, Added will show all web
sites that are currently in a WebPage, and Not Added will show
all web sites that are not in a Web Page.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Trouble Shooting Problems... ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
1. Corrupted Netscape file error message
a. You will receive this message when the format for a Netscape
bookmark.htm file is not correct. The easiest way to fix this
problem is to load Netscape, select Bookmarks->Go to
Bookmarks... menu option. Then open the bookmark file for which
you received the error message. Then select File->Save as...
menu option from the bookmark window and save the file. This
will cause Netscape to re-format the bookmark file. Re-try
opening it with Web Organizer. If the problem persist after
doing the above please contact ONG SoftWare with the problem and
a copy of the Netscape bookmark file if possible.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Known Bugs ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
1. System locks up when when a website or WebPage is dragged over
Netscape window
a. When dragging a website or a WebPage from Web Organizer over the
Netscape window the system will lock up. We have sent a message
to IBM concerning this problem and are waiting for a response.
We strongly suggest you do not do this because you will only be
able to recover from this lock up by rebooting the machine.
