  3. Welcome to WebNavigator 1.13 !

  5. This document contains a quick description of WebNavigator 1.13. For more 
  6. information please start WebNavigator and view the online documentation
  7. in the Help menu (you may also press F1).

  21. 1. What is WebNavigator 1.13
  22. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  23. WebNavigator is a web browser for OS/2.
  24.  
  25. WebNavigator is a faster, easier way of browsing the web than WebExplorer. 
  26. It does most of the things that WebExplorer does and works both on and off
  27. -line. It has many features that WebExplorer does not. If you are used to
  28. work with WebExplorer you will soon get used to work with WebNavigator. 
  29. Most menu-items and keyboard shortcuts are similar to those in WebExplorer.

  31. Features you should note:
  32. - Selecting a link while a page is loading
  33. - Internal and external (plugin) ftp/download
  34. - Integrated News and Mail.
  35. - Easy to use QuickList
  36. - Small (around 100kb) and fast.

  38. We also offer custom made versions of WebNavigator for customers that have
  39. specific needs.  For example, feature limited company specific versions.

  43. WebNavigator supports HTML 2.0 plus some features of HTML 3.x.
  44. Since WebNavigator uses the same websupport as WebExplorer the level of 
  45. HTML compliancy is the same as the installed version of WebExplorer.

  47. WebNavigator requires Warp 3 or Warp 4. WebNavigator also requires that
  48. you have installed IBM TCP/IP support and WebExplorer (to get the DLL
  49. file WEBEXWIN.DLL that WebNavigator needs). These features are included
  50. in all versions of Warp 3 and Warp 4.

  54. 2. What is new in version  1.13
  55. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  56. Version 1.13 is an intermediate release. It is a release to fix a
  57. specific problem.
  58. A major upgrade (1.5) is currently in closed beta.
  59.  
  60. - When IBM upgraded WEBEXWIN.DLL with WebExplorer 1.1h they changed
  61.   the specfications for proxy and socket support. The change was
  62.   newer documented !!

  64. - WebNavigator now contains a fix that checks for the version of
  65.   WEBEXWIN.DLL and if it finds 1.1h its handles the problem.

  67. - The Help->Prouct Information menu item now reports the location
  68.   of your WEBEXWIN.DLL file and its version.

  70. NOTE: Do NOT use this version to upgrade from HTMLview !

  74. 3. Trial version limitations
  75. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  76. Before you register you will be using the trial version. You are allowed to
  77. run the unregistered version for 30 days. All use after that is illegal.

  81. The trial version has the following restrictions:
  82. - The QuickList cannot exceed five items.
  83. - The program will exit after running for 20 minutes.
  84. - When starting and exiting WebNavigator an information screen appears.
  85.  
  86. You may however start WebNavigator as many times as you like during
  87. your trial period of 30 days.
  88.  
  89. NOTE:
  90. If a download is running when the trial version times out the download
  91. will continue and finish. Just don't click the OK button!

  95. 4. Installation
  96. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  97. The installation program is written for your convenience but is not required
  98. to install the product. You may copy the files to your harddisk manually if
  99. you wish. Only three files are required to run WebNavigator.
  100.  
  101. - Copy the files (WEBNAV.EXE, WEBNAV.HTM, DIRECT.LNK) to a directory 
  102.   of your choice.
  103. - Create desktop icons with program references for WEBNAV.EXE.
  104. - DO NOT drag the icons representing the executables from the file system 
  105.   (Drives window).
  106. - You may create several program references with different links as parameters.
  107. - Many copies of WebNavigator may run at the same time.

  110. If the installation program fails, please ensure that:
  111.  
  112. - The installation directory is not in a non existing multilevel path.
  113. - The installation drive is not write protected.
  114. - You are running Workplace Shell.
  115. - The package WEBN113.ZIP is not tampered with.

  118. NOTE:
  119. If you use 1.11 or 1.12 today just replace the WEBNAV.EXE. You need NOT to
  120. rerun the installation program though it should work.
