  1. % This file may be viewed on-line by SLRN by linking the environment variable
  2. % SLRNHELP to it.  It is particlularly useful when you modify the default
  3. % keybindings and you want the on-line help to reflect this fact.

  5. % The format of the file is simple.  Lines that start with `%' are comment
  6. % lines and will be ignored.  Also, any line that consists entirely of
  7. % whitespace is also ignored.  All other lines are meaningful. 
  8.  
  9. % The file is divided into sections.  A section is started by the presence of
  10. % a line that contains a name enclosed in brackets.  Currently, the only
  11. % names formed in this manner are [Article] and [Group].  The text that
  12. % follows one of these names will be displayed as the help screen for that 
  13. % particular mode.

  17. Searching:
  18.   /         Search forward in the article.
  19.   a         Author search forward.
  20.   A         Author search backward.
  21.   s         Subject search forward.
  22.   S         Subject search backward.

  24. Commands that affect the article:
  25.   h         Hide window (zoom header window)
  26.   SPACE     Select article or scroll to next page
  27.   DEL, b    Scroll article back one page
  28.   ESC-UP    Scroll article up one line
  29.   ESC-DOWN  Scroll article down one line
  30.   RIGHT     Pan article to the right
  31.   LEFT      Pan article to the left
  32.   t         Toggle on/off the display of unimportant headers.
  33.   T         Toggle on/off the display of quoted lines.
  34.   TAB       Skip beyond quoted text.
  35.   ESC-r     Toggle ROT 13 decryption on and off.
  36.   ESC-Ctrl-C Cancel article

  38. Posting, Replying, Piping, and Saving:
  39.   P         Post a new article (NOT followup)
  40.   f         Followup to current article.
  41.   F         Forward the article to someone
  42.   r         Reply to the poster
  43.   o         Append the article to a file.
  44.   |         Pipe the article to and external command.

  46. Commands that pertain to the header window:
  47.   d         Mark article as read and move to next unread.
  48.   u         Mark the article as unread
  49.   p         Move to a previously unread article
  50.   n         Move to the next unread article or next group if at end.
  51.   N         Skip to next news group.
  52.   UP        Move to the previous article
  53.   DOWN      Move to the next article
  54.   ;         Set a mark at current position
  55.   ,         Return to the previous mark setting mark first
  56.   q         Quit back to group mode
  57.   Ctrl-^    Decrease the size of the header window by one line
  58.   ^         Increase the size of the header window by one line
  59.   ESC >     Move to the end of the header list
  60.   ESC <     Move to the beginning of the header list
  61.   Ctrl-U    Perform Page-Up on the header window.
  62.   Ctrl-D    Perform Page-Dn on the header window.

  64.   ESC-S     Toggle header threading on/off.
  65.   ESC-p     Find parent header reading from server if necessary
  66.   ESC-Ctrl-P Find child header

  75. Note: The keys are case sensitive!  That is, 's' and 'S' are not the same.
  76. Subscribing/Unsubscribing Hints:
  77.   1. Press CAPITAL 'L' and enter the name of the groups to display, e.g.,
  78.       *.music.*  to see all 'music' groups.
  79.   2. Move to the group you want to subscribe to and then press 's'.
  80.       Repeat this step for each group.
  81.   3. Press the Capital-L key again to display only subscribed groups.
  82. Commands that affect the current group:
  83.   P                    Post an article to the current newsgroup
  84.   SPACE, RETURN       *Select the current newsgroup.
  85.     *Note: With a prefix argument, unread articles are selected too.
  86.   s                    Subscribe to the current newsgroup
  87.   u                    Un-subscribe from the current newsgroup
  88.   c                    Catchup-- mark all articles as read
  89. Movement Commands:
  90.   ESC <                Move to top of the list
  91.   ESC >                Move to bottom of the list
  92.   Ctrl-V, Ctrl-D       Scroll to next page
  93.   ESC V, Ctrl-U        Scroll to previous page
  94.   DOWN                 Move to next group

  96. Miscellaneous Commands:
  97.   a                    Add a new newsgroup (See 'L' help too!)
  98.   Ctrl-L, Ctrl-R       Redraw the screen
  99.   Ctrl-Z               Suspend newsreader
  100.   l                    Toggle listing of groups that have no unread articles
  101.   L                    Toggle listing of unsubscribed groups
  102.   /                    Search forward
  103.   q                    Quit newsreader
  104.   G                    Get new news
  105.   X                    Force a save of the newsrc file.
  106.   ESC-a                Toggle display of group description on/off.
