POP3 Spy - Version 1.2
(c) Copyright Ralf Christen 1997
---------------------------------
YOU MAY USE AND DISTRIBUTE THIS PROGRAM FREELY AS LONG AS YOU DON'T
MODIFY ANY OF ITS PARTS.
What this software does
-----------------------
Are you tired of checking your E-Mail every few minutes ?
You do not want to have your E-Mail Client running all the time to keep you
informed about incoming mail ?
The POP3 Spy is a small program which checks your mail every few minutes
and informs you in many different ways:
- The window interior displays the number of messages on your mailserver.
The window is red if you don't have messages on your server and it turns
to green as soon as there is at least on message on your server.
It is not necessary to see the entire window; if you can see a small part
of it, you see if there is some mail waiting.
- The icon changes. When running this program minimized, you can check the
icon on your desktop. The window title also tells you how many messages
are waiting.
- The software can inform you by playing a tune using the system speaker.
- It can even automatically launch your E-Mail client
What you need
-------------
You need Warp V3 or Warp V4 with TCP/IP or the IBM Internet Access Kit
(IAK) installed to run this software.
IMPORTANT: This package contains a DLL named RXSOCK.DLL. If you
have Warp V3 CONNECT or Warp V4 installed, you have to DELETE
this DLL to get this software to run because these OS/2 versions
have their own RXSOCK.DLL. This file is only needed by Internet
Access Kit (IAK) users.
Settings
--------
The settings page contains the following configuration data:
- The name of your mail (POP3) server
- Your username on the mail server entered above
- Your password for the username entered above. The password is being
saved encrypted. If you do not want to enter the password, you get
prompted every time you start the POP3 Spy. However, the program
doesn't start to check your mail automatically if you do not
provide at password.
- Interval of mail check in minutes
- A command to be executed when new mail has been arrived. POP3 Spy
checks if this application is already running and doesn't start
an additional instance. Leave this field empty if you do not want
to start an application.
- You can select between different audio options: No audio notify,
play a tune, just beep.
- If you do not want to get notified every time the POP3 Spy checks
the mail and there IS some unread mail available, select the
"Audio notify only once" checkbox. If you have this feature
enabled, POP3 Spy notifies you ONCE after the number of unread
mail items has changed.
- Select "Start minimized" if you have entered a password and want
to have the POP3 Spy started minimized. If you want to start the
POP3 Spy fullsize, you should not select this option.
Notes: If you want to save the REGULAR (maximized) window position,
you have to leave the POP3 Spy maximized. If you want to save the
MINIMIZED window position, you have to leave the POP3 Spy minimized
(at least once).
New in this Version
-------------------
- The password is saved encrypted
- The minimized window position is being saved when leaving the program
while having the window minimized. If you have selected to start the
POP3 Spy minimized, you'll find it at the same position on your desktop.
- The POP3 Spy program information does not appear in the window title
after starting the program. This saves space on the desktop.
- New option to get notified just once.
