  18.  Nota Musica is packaged on the installation disks using Info-ZIP's compression 
  19.  utility.  The installation program uses UnZip to read zip files from the 
  20.  installation disks.  Info-ZIP's software (Zip, UnZip and related utilities) is 
  21.  free and can be obtained as source code or executables from various bulletin 
  22.  board services and anonymous-ftp sites, including CompuServe's IBMPRO forum 
  23.  and ftp.uu.net:/pub/archiving/zip/*.

  28.  This manual is meant to be an introduction to your work with Nota Musica 
  29.  Sequencer.  It can also serve as a reference.

  31.  The following chapters describe the installation and use of Nota Musica 
  32.  Sequencer.  The sequence of these chapters corresponds to the order of the 
  33.  Nota Musica Sequencer menu items.

  35.  Within the manual, you'll sometimes encounter these two symbols:

  49. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. 2 Installation of Nota Musica Sequencer ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  51.  To install Nota Musica Sequencer, execute the installation program install.cmd 
  52.  on the Nota Musica install disk.  First, you'll be asked whether you want to 
  53.  use the English or German language installation program.  Later on, you'll 
  54.  have to enter the name of the directory into which you want Nota Musica 
  55.  Sequencer to be installed. 
  56.  
  57.  The installation program unpacks the required files and creates objects on 
  58.  your desktop.

  61. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. 3 System Requirements ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  63.  To use nota Musica Sequencer you need an IBM compatible PC with OS/2 Warp 
  64.  Version 4.0 (or higher) installed.  You should have 4MB of free space on your 
  65.  hard drive.  In addition, you need a MPU 401 compatible sound card with the 
  66.  MPU401 driver installed (this driver can be found on the OS/2 Warp 4.0 device 
  67.  driver CD-ROM).  You can play MIDI files using a sound card with wave table 
  68.  support and play or record MIDI files on a MIDI device connected to the MIDI 
  69.  port of your sound card.

  74.  Nota Musica Sequencer is Shareware, i.e.  you are allowed to evaluate the

  106.  Welcome to Nota Musica Sequencer.  By buying this program you show that you 
  107.  are interested in working with and making music. 
  108.  
  109.  The OS/2 Presentation Manager Programm Nota Musica Sequencer can be started by 
  110.  opening the program object Nota Musica Sequencer or by typing notaseq.exe at 
  111.  the command prompt.  Nota Musica Sequencer accepts two parameters: Using 
  112.  -i<Ini-File> you can specify which Ini-file Nota Musica Sequencer should use; 
  113.  -r<Resource-Dll> lets you choose a resource file for individual language support.
  114.  
  115.  In the first two lines of the window there are entry fields for the composer 
  116.  and the title of the MIDI-file.  Below, you'll see buttons to play, rewind, 
  117.  and record.  In case you play a MIDI Type 2 file with multiple movements, you 
  118.  can choose which movement to play using the two leftmost buttons. 
  119.  
  120.  In case you want to record from your keyboard, the MIDI files has to be of 
  121.  either type 0 or type 2.  To record into a MIDI type 1 file, you need to 
  122.  convert the file to type 0 first. 
  123.  
  124.  The duration of the piece is shown above the buttons.  While you play a piece, 
  125.  you will also see, how much of the piece has already been played. 
  126.  
  127.   Currently, the RealTime MIDI interface doas not support System Exclusive 
  128.  Messages.  Because of this, these messages will not be send to the MIDI-device 
  129.  by Nota Musica Sequencer. 
  130.  
  131.   Please note that the RealTime MIDI interface of OS/2 does not officially 
  132.  support recording.  This feature is still in the beta-test phase. 
  133.  Nevertheless, Nota Musica Sequencer allows you to record MIDI-tunes, but you 
  134.  can only record once.  If you terminate recording you cannot play or record 
  135.  any more until you reboot your computer.

  140.  The menu item File contains commands to handle MIDI-files.

  142.  Nota Musica Sequencer supports MIDI files of type 0, 1, and 2.  In a MIDI type 
  143.  0 file, the entire piece is stored in one track.  In a MIDI type 1 file, one 
  144.  or more voices are stored per track.  For type 2, every track contains one or 
  145.  more movements of a piece.

  158.  piece of MIDI type 0.  You can now record into this new piece.

  165.  file has been loaded, its name and duration will be displayed in the

  168.  At the bottom of the File menu you'll see the names of the last five files you 
  169.  loaded.  To reload one of these files, simply select the respective menu item.

  191.  you can enter a new file name.
