New Notes
---------
This version has been compiled with VAC++, and no longer requires the EMX
runtime libraries.
After extensive testing, I was unable to get this version to crash on
any .mp3, if you manage to do so, email me at bhruic@servtech.com. Please
include the error line (and the .mp3 name would help too).
The only part that no longer works with this port is wildcard support.
Old Notes
---------
If you run this program in less than 75MHz pentium, use '-p' switch!!
Without that switch maplay raises its priority to timecritical, and gives
time to other programs only when buffers are full. This means that IF YOUR
MACHINE IS TOO SLOW, YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO INTERRUPT MAPLAY OR DO ANYTHING
ELSE. While even this shouldn't crash your machine (maplay will exit once
file is played), it may hang it for some time. And the sound you are hearing
may be ... interesting.
Maplay was tested on 75MHz pentium (works better without '-p' switch) and
120MHz pentium (works well even with '-p' switch). It should be able to run
faster 486s in mono mode (use '-l' or '-r' switch). Both machines had GUS.
I have also got a report, that it works on soundblaster-16 after installing
newer drivers (see README.OS2).
Layer III files will need at least 100MHz pentium.
Maplay for OS/2 needs MMPM to be installed and an audio card capable of
44.1kHz 16 bit output. Also you may need emx runtime libraries
(ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/os/os2/02-emx-runtime.zip) if you don't have
them already.
