  1. 32bit Fax Installation
  2.  
  3. Installing or reinstalling the shareware version of 32bit Fax:
  4.  
  5. Be sure to get the newest version from our www-page.
  6.  
  7. Shut down and restart the computer because you can not reinstall or
  8. modify a file that; is in use, is running, and in some cases if it has
  9. been running earlier. When rebooting, be sure you do not start any apps
  10. or programs, especially virus detecting programs. Be sure that 32bit Fax
  11. and associated files are not running or in use, and that 32bit Fax is not
  12. running as a service.
  13.  
  14. If you are installing on NT and you have [RAS], [Proxy Server], [Exchange
  15. Server], and/or any other Services that may be reserving resources and/or
  16. the modem running as a service, go to [Services] in the [Control Panel]
  17. and disable/Stop them.  Note...After installation re-enable any services
  18. that you disable now.
  19.  
  20. Be sure to log on as the administrator.
  21.  
  22. Be sure that 32bit Fax has full read/write access.
  23.  
  24. Be sure the time and date are the same on all computers on the network.
  25.  
  26. To install 32BF on Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.xx, use [Start], [Run],
  27. [Browse] and browse to the directory where you unzipped 32BF and select
  28. INSTALL.EXE. Do not run INSTALL.EXE in any way other than the way just
  29. described.
  30.  
  31. Install or reinstalling 32BF without any programs or virus scanners
  32. running in the background. Be sure that, not even, 32BF is running in
  33. the background. Be sure that the 32BF INSTALL.EXE has read/write access
  34. to the HardDrive and all files. Otherwise some files may not get copied or
  35. modified. Re-boot immediately after installing.

  37. The install instructions are in the INSTALL.EXE.

  39. Be very careful when asked for this computer's HardDrive. This computer's
  40. HardDrive should usually be C: drive. If installing on a network you will 
  41. select the Server HardDrive later.
  42.  
  43. If installing on a standalone computer, do nothing. If installing on a 
  44. network, the Server HardDrive is the mapped drive that all instances on 
  45. 32BF will be using as their [Server HardDrive]. Do not map to 32BITFAX
  46. directory.
  47.  
  48. You may need to reinstall all workstations. Be VERY careful when asked for
  49. THIS COMPUTERS HardDrive and then for the SERVER HardDrive. THIS COMPUTERS
  50. HardDrive is normally C: drive.
  51.  
  52. If you have mapped the workstation 2 SERVER HardDrive to the
  53. ServerDriveLetter:\32BITFAX, it will not work. You will need to re-map it
  54. to ServerDriveLetter:\
  55.  
  56. You can use paths if you are good with mapping directories.
  57.  
  58. To learn how to map to a directory instead of the root of a server drive,
  59. go to www.ElectraSoft.com, the bottom of [Run 32bit Fax
  60. as an NT Service] and read the message thread on this subject.

  62. You may want to dedicate a whole server drive to 32BF.
  63.  
  64. After final installation:
  65. If you have installed 32BF two or more times; once on one HardDrive
  66. and once on another, go to the [printers] and be sure that the ?:\TOFAX
  67. port is correct. Where ? is the HardDriveLetter that 32BF is installed
  68. on.

  70. 32BF Convert to Fax MUST use ?:\TOFAX as its port!
  71.  
  72. Be sure you do *NOT* have a directory or file called ?:\TOFAX on the 
  73. system.
  74.  
  75. Do not share the 32BF Convert to Fax on ?:\TOFAX.  Each station has
  76. its own.
  77.  
  78. All versions of Windows except NT will have the 32BF Convert to Fax
  79. available now.
  80.  
  81. If you have Windows NT, go to the Printer-Installer and create the
  82. [32BF NT Convert to Fax] as per the 32BF README instructions. The
  83. section you want to read is called WINDOWS NT.
