100Buddy Version 1.1 Release Notes
100Buddy version 1.1a (March 21, 1994) -- Release Notes
-------------------------------------------------------
100Buddy version 1.1a is a "cleanup" release. It corrects
minor bugs in version 1.0b and enhances a few features. In
particular, the Fn-F password logic has been improved. No
major features have been added. Two checkboxes in the EXM has
been added (having to do with Fn-Q and Fn-F) and one checkbox
has been changed (having to do with the Filer-DOS hotkey).
If you have already registered your old copy of 100Buddy, you
may install and use the update at no additional charge.
Enhancements and New Features in 100Buddy 1.1a:
-----------------------------------------------
1. Fn-F: When a password is required, if you push TAB, make
three failed attempts to enter the password, or just randomly
push a lot of keys, the default owner file,
"C:\_DAT\100BUDDY.OWN", will automatically be called up in
Filer View. You may prepare for that event by creating that
file with Memo and entering your "100LX lost & found"
instructions therein. If you specify an ENV file path and name
as an argument when you start Buddy, the owner file will share
the same path and name as the ENV file.
2. Fn-F: You can specify that a password be required whenever
power is turned on. If that mode is active and if power is
turned on due to an alarm, the screen will not be scrambled,
although a password will still be required. As usual, enter
your password first, then acknowledge the alarm.
3. Fn-F: Case is ignored when checking the password.
4. Fn-Q: Fn-Q will (optionally) silence alarms, in addition
to keyboard beeps (until you push Fn-W). There is a setting in
the EXM that will do an automatic Fn-W to restore the beeper
when an alarm occurs. The state of Fn-Q is shown on the Filer
title bar ("Q" or "q", depending on whether the "Fn-Q also
silences ... alarms" checkbox is on or off).
"Fn-Q" box ON "Fn-Q" box OFF
------------- ----------------
In Filer, Fn-Q shows: "Q" "q"
Keyboard beeps: not heard not heard
Built-in alarms: not heard heard, does Fn-W
Custom alarms w/o Vn: not heard not heard, Fn-W at
end*
Custom alarms with a Vn: not heard heard, does Fn-W
* In this case, an Fn-W is performed at the end of the alarm.
Thus, you will not hear the first alarm, but subsequent beeps
and alarms will be heard.
5. Memo and Full Notes: The Buddy labels on the main screen
are no longer enlarged.
6. Memo: Labels for the built-in functions (e.g., Bold and
Promote) appear on the F-keys after pushing MENU.
7. SmartCaps: If you have SmartCaps on, AND if you have the
autocase checkbox on ("dot after white-space toggles caps
lock"), then d-letter will only operate on the first letter of
a word. Thus, "llee" will be "Lee" and "bbeer" will be "Beer".
If you want to capitalize an entire word, then you must either
use the SHIFT key or push the period key just prior to typing
the word.
8. Macros: You can quickly access a specific macro line by
pushing a number key. Also, F10 and SHIFT-F10 are "Save" and
"Save As," respectively.
9. Filer: ENTER will never launch an "autoexec.bat" file,
regardless of the setting of the "BAT extension ... executes"
checkbox in the EXM.
10. Filer: The "+ENTER" checkbox (on the Filer Settings
screen of the EXM) and related functionality has been deleted
from the DOS MENU-dot exit function and added to the DOS hotkey
function. Leave this box unchecked if you want to manually add
options when you use the hotkey command to start a DOS program.
11. Stopwatch and Buddy HLP: Most Buddy keyboard features are
now disabled in the Stopwatch application. Yes, this is an
"enhancement" because some features used to work incorrectly.
Stopwatch gives buddy fits.
12. General: MENU while showing menus will do an ESC.
13. General: Buddy will recognize "%" and "~" in the normal
font.
14. NoteTaker: The up and down arrow keys will navigate
between the "Title" and the "Note" fields.
15. Calc: If F5 = "No" and F8 is blank, then F8 will be "No,"
too.
16. Filer View: Space bar will move down one page.
17. Filer View: The cursor will be turned off when viewing
formatted files. Also, Fn-down and Fn-up will move by one line
even if the hidden cursor is at the opposite extreme.
18. Appointment: d-gray is disabled in the Date and Time
entry fields.
19. Appointment: If F6, F7, F8, F9, or F10 is blank, that
function key will become "Appt" or "Todo". Thus, pushing F8,
for example, will flip-flop between the weekly and daily views.
20. Lotus 123: The F-key labels are no longer displayed in
the 80-column mode.
21. WorldTime: If you have the map overlay feature enabled,
Buddy will open the application to the map display when you
start WorldTime.
22. General: Users of FCL will find Buddy to be a little less
picky about changes to the character set. In particular, Buddy
will now recognize all applications correctly even if the 'c'
and 'h' characters are non-standard. However, any user strings
such as file names and application linkage strings that Buddy
captures from the display might be truncated if you change the
fonts.
Bugs fixed in 100Buddy 1.1a (partial list):
-------------------------------------------
23. F-key search string labels: The F5, F6, F7, and F8 F-key
labels on the Memo Find screen are now correct.
24. EXM checkboxes: In the EXM, the "DOS cursor" checkbox and
the "BAT file" checkbox are no longer tied together.
25. Filer: The linkage to Appointment (.adb files) will work.
26. Filer: ".mac" files will not be linked to the Macros
application unless they are in the Macros default directory.
Otherwise, such files will be linked to Memo. This now matches
the documentation.
27. Database applications: If the previous database file was
password protected, the next Filer-to-database link will work
correctly.
28. Appointment: The equal sign will not be converted to a
colon.
29. Setup: The main battery voltage will be correct even if
Filer has never been started.
30. F1 F1 (Buddy HLP) will work even if the d-click timer is
set less than 8.
31. Filer and Buddy HLP: Fn may be used after F1 F1 while
viewing the Buddy HLP file from the Filer.
32. Filer: The link to Memo will work with CTRL-ENTER even if
Memo is closed.
33. Filer: If you leave BREAK ON when exiting DOS, Buddy will
beep a few times then turn break off for you. Buddy used to
beep forever.
34. Memo: If the blue-key swap feature is on, SHIFT-CAPS will
not call up cc:Mail.
35. When navigating in an "Open File" or "Insert File" window
and if the file list is empty, the up arrow will go from the
directory list to the file name field.
36. Fn-F won't scramble the TOPCARD, even if it is not named
TOPCARD.
37. MENU-SHIFT-DEL will exit Buddy when Buddy is "waiting for
sysmgr" (that is, when Buddy is running but sysmgr is not).
38. The Phone and Filer search cancel timer and the Filer
display update timer in will not get stuck when operating on
batteries.
Documentation errors (1.0):
---------------------------
39. Section 1. You can NOT remap the shifted alphanumeric
keys and the CTRL-letter keys.
40. Section 5.3. MEMO while in Memo will not do a "goto."
