  13.    The Speaker audio device driver provide support for playing digital
  14.    audio waveform files on the standard PC speaker by using the
  15.    MMPM/2 audio system.   This support is important because it allows
  16.    non-multimedia enabled systems to play short sound effects and other
  17.    short digitized sound through the PC speaker.

  19. Caveat
  20.  
  21.    The standard PC speaker was not intended to play digitized waveform
  22.    sound.  In order to produce a reasonable approximation of the
  23.    sound contained in .WAV files, the device driver requires
  24.    exclusive use of the CPU for an extended period of time.  This
  25.    may have undersirable effects on performance critical multitasking
  26.    such as communications, modem transfers, networking, etc.
  27.    We do not recommend that this software be used in conjunction with
  28.    communications software while communications are taking place.
  29.    If you experience problems, you should discontinue use of the
  30.    speaker device driver.

  33. Installation

  35.    1) Place the files from this package into a subdirectory (i.e. \spkrdd)
  36.  
  37.    2) Use the MINSTALL installation program from the MMPM/2 folder to
  38.       select the \spkrdd directory.  Install the Speaker Driver
  39.       package by selecting the speaker driver object and pressing Install.

  41.    3) After install is complete, a reboot is required.

  43. Configuration

  45.    The speed and volume of the sound produced by the speaker device
  46.    driver must be configured on a machine by machine basis.

  48.    1) Select the Multimedia Setup program in the MMPM/2 folder.

  50.    2) Select the speaker settings page, to customize the speed and
  51.       volume of speaker.  The speaker push button will place a test
  52.       sound, that will give you some feedback on the speed and volume
  53.       adjustments.

  58.    If you experience problems with the speaker device driver and which to
  59.    un-install it.

  61.    1) Edit you config.sys, and comment out the device driver line:
