  2. This file is for SUPERVISORS OF NOVELL NETWORKS.  It was created because we

  4. have found too many Novell networks where everyone logs in as the
  5.  
  6. Supervisor or the same person, i.e. Sales.
  7.

  10. NETTALK will NOT work under these circumstances as EACH NETTALK user much
  11.  
  12. have their own different login name, i.e., Jane, John, Vicki, Tom, etc.
  13.  
  14. Otherwise, NETTALK does not know who to send the message too.  That is, if
  15.  
  16. everyone logs in as supervisor, you would be sending to yourself.

  20. To add a user to a Novell 3.11 Network, please
  21.

  24. Login as Supervisor

  28. From the DOS prompt type           Syscon

  32. From the Syscon menu select        User Information

  36. Press the INSERT button on your keyboard (do not type insert, the insert

  38. button is generally located above the cursor buttons and to the right of
  39.  
  40. the ENTER button)

  44. You will then see                  User Name

  48. Type in the User Name you want to add, i.e., Fred

  72. To quit, Press the ESC button on your keyboard a few times to quit SYSCON.

  76. NOTE: This is a brief explanation of adding a user to a Novell Network, we
  77.  
  78. urge caution if you are unfamiliar with Novell and you should contact your
  79.  
  80. dealer.

  88. As the Novell LAN Manager, you need to give your users rights to the
  89.  
  90. INTERCOM directory where you have placed NetTalk.  The reason is that each
  91.  
  92. person has their own Yellow Sticky Pad file and their own Call Log.  If you
  93.  
  94. do not know how to give RIGHTS, you can start by typing RIGHTS from
  95.  
  96. wherever you have placed NetTalk.  This will tell you what RIGHTS you have.

  98. This will NOT tell you what RIGHTS other users have.

  102. STOP, before you proceed if you are unfamiliar with Novell, we suggest you
  103.  
  104. call your dealer for specific advice regarding your individual Novell
  105.  
  106. network.  Your dealer may have other ways to accomplish this or specific
  107.  
  108. recommendations.

  111. In order to add RIGHTS to your Novell Network,
  112.  
  113. you login as SUPERVISOR and type SYSCON
  114.

  116. Then Select - Group Information
  117.  
  118. Then Select - Group Names - Everyone
  119.  
  120. Then Select - Trustee Directory Assignments
  121.  
  122. Then hit the INSERT button

  124. Type   SYS:Intercom

  126. Hit the Enter button

  128. Then hit the INSERT button - Select Create

  132. The hit the INSERT button - Select Erase

  136. Then hit the INSERT button - Select Modify

  140. Then hit the INSERT button - Select Write

  144. Then hit the INSERT button - Select Access Control

  146. Then hit the ESC button a number of times until you leave SYSCON and then
  147. you are done.

  149. NOTE: You should then restart or reboot your PCs.

  151. Frankly, this doesn't take very long and will help you familiarize yourself
  152. with Novell.
